Does it really matter? Really just an exposition character in the book.
Well it's gonna be a little weird.... That the Freman leader is a woman considering Paul's gonna kill Jamis and then basically own his wife afterward. .

But yeah it's not going to change much overall. Just seems silly.

The only notable part of Liet-Kynes beyond the exposition is how his/her offspring is.

I would be surprised if the movie depicts the Fremen as being quite as paternalistic as the book did.

I'm sure they won't given this change so I guess we'll see how they handle the whole Jamis thing. That's also a minor-ass part of the story though.

All that aside, this movie looks sweet as hell from everything I've seen thus far.

Yeah. The trailer looks incredible.

I hope they do keep the Jamis thing in the story. I loved that part in the book and it could be awesome in the movie.

I think that's being FAR too generous. The reviews look mixed at best.

What often makes a great movie is it's ability to make you forgot who the actors are as you are consumed by the characters they play.
A great example of this is Open Range. Costner, Duvall, Bening ...you just disappear into those characters in the first 5 minutes.

The more big names you have I think the harder is to do this.

Looking at this list ...I don't think they can pull it off. ...and don't even get me started with Oscar Isaac.

Chalamet is the type of actor they should have filled more spots with., .... very talented but semi unknown.

I got to see Dune. It's good. There are NO SPOILERS in this post.

If you liked the novel, you'll like the movie. Note that the movie is only "Part One", so the movie only makes it about halfway through the book.

Watched this tonight on HBO Max. Was planning on going to see it in Imax if it was even decent. But may have to change the plans. I watched it with my 14 year old adhd son, and my 16 and 18 year old daughters.

Reviews
Me - Read and loved the first book, the second book I liked. The third book was kind of pushing it for me. Tried reading the extended universe stuff and couldn't get into it at all
I loved this movie for what it was. But I would be pretty reticent to recommend it to anyone who wasn't already a fan.

18 year old daughter - Super nerdy and very intelligent. She loved the movie and said she can't wait to read the book so she could figure out wtf was going on.

16 year old daughter - Thought the movie was OK, but really liked Timothee Chalemet. And she really REALLY wanted to "rock the outfits he was wearing and all the trenchcoats and stuff."

14 year old - "This is the kind of movie I hate. All they do is talk and nothing happens."

***Although it must be noted that he voluntarily went to bed with about a half an hour left because he was so disgusted by the movie, and he ended up missing any action that may have happened. I say may have happened because the action happened between peop, people, wearing black and people wearing dark grey, and it all happened at night on a dark screen with a wide view and the camera moving and shaking to try to convey action.

I'll gladly pay to see it again, but I doubt I can drag anyone with me.

Watched it as well and really enjoyed it. With that said it won't be for everyone. A lot of moving parts moving very quickly, a lot to take in and if you're not a sci fi fan you'll likely not appreciate the world building of it. It's both a slow burn and moving 100 mph. I have a 75' tv and surround sound so it was great but you cannot watch this movie without a great setup.

Going with my dad to watch it next weekend. I read the books a long time ago. Wasn’t a big fan of the ‘80s movie with Sting. This looks like they will do a better job
