With a second round pick in Slay and a big contract on Houston, a third rounder invested in Bentley, Greenwood looked promising and Mathis was a solid vet, how are we going to get value in a "win now" scenario if we draft a CB?

THIS!!
So many people always want more. As I said last year. Check the cupboard before you go shopping. The CB's are showing promise. Why give up on the kids they are developing. Are these the same people who turn around and speak of Lions not developing late 3rd toUDFA talent???

If someone like Patrick Peterson was in the draft, Getting a CB of that caliber puts the other guys feet to the fire and train harder, take shit more serious if they know they can be beat out....

Competition breeds success......Without Drafting another DB those guys won't be pushed and play like shit for another year......

I could give a shit if Houston is ever in a Lions jersey again. The pansy can't even finish out plays. Fuck him and bring in somebody who atleast tries. (Dead money is better than dead weight)

Ya Houston has been defeated mentally more than once, and is past his prime age-wise. The young guys are all cool, but he;s got to go. Makes a lot of money too. Cut him.

That DeSean Jackson TD when he completely quit because he knew he couldn't hang and was looking for a little help from the zebras was the final straw for me. If his career continues, good for him. But it shouldn't be continuing in Detroit. Dude never should have cut his hair.

At this point, who cares what they've invested in already. We NEED as much secondary help as possible and a damn #2 Wr to even compete. No matter who you bring in, you play your best guys. Houston has never been consistent. Bentley and Slay are very average. I'd bet money Greenwood is not ready for a starting role.

If it were me, I would attempt to move Houston inside with Slay and the rookie on the outside. DRC would be at the top of my list come FA.

I'd be one happy fan if the Lions landed a really good Cb (not a second rounder) and a very talented Wr this off-season. Im not sure if the idea of a Evans, Watkins or Benjamin has even sunk in with the fans yet. There is no more time to be bullshittin around on this team.

No more excuses

Lets keep in mind that Chicago has a very nice group of Wrs and they could potentially add to that at any time. The Packers will definitely regroup and the Vikings could still add someone to pair with Patterson. Its either the Lions safties better play like pro bowlers or they get more help on the outside.

I am not opposed to a S and letting Delmas walk.

I agree Smitty. These are the areas where people blamed GM and DUI for bad contracts. Houston played great 2011. Everyone loved him. Now he is Levy of last off season . I do feel the dead money wins out and Delmas is the one who restructures or is gone. His dead money is small.

OT or we riot! Reiff can't play LT! Move him to G or RT! Ziggy Ansah has only played football for 3 days! They asked him for a swim move and he jumped in a lake!

It has been since the Stafford draft that so many will be pissed at the first pick. Second round and on, that is different story.

Lions have a lot of needs to fill. There are currently 35 signed players to which account for 121 mil of the cap (total cap for 2014 expected to be 126 mil), not to mention an additional 1.5 mil in dead money cap hit for J. Best and a few others no longer on the roster. If you cut C. Houston that creates an instant 6.4 mil (2.5 mil base and 3.9 mil in bonus). As much as he sucked this past year, you need him on the roster versus loss of money and player. Next year he'll only cost 2.6 mil to cut.

To go further in-depth on the salary cap, here is what you are looking at for the 2014/2015 year
Stafford 15,820,000.00
Suh 22,412,500.00
CJ 13,058,000.00
Burly 7,531,641.00
Delmas 6,500,000.00 (if you cut him, it costs 1 mil) Great Safeties in this draft 2nd-3rd round
Tulloch 5,800,000.00
Houston 4,800,000.00 (if you cut him, it costs 6.4 mil)
Quin 4,500,000.00
Bush 4,500,000.00
Ansah 4,226,025.00
J. Jones 3,633,333.00 (nearly 2x from last year and he tore his patellar tendon)
Levy 3,250,000.00
Reiff 3,146,500.00
Broyles 1,003,227.00 (ruptured his Achilles after 2 ACL, you can forget him for 2014)

This is a very small sample of cap hits not to mention all these young players drafted last 3 years receiving 70k-400k raises in base salary :wtf2:
