What are we getting in return ? Partial solutions to our weaknesses and the couple of real huge weaknesses go unaddressed.
Game changers!!
Yhey get game changers in returnwhich is something that this team has lacked since forever! It seems to me that you want more of the same and not an honest effort to take advantage of this two-year window that's wide open now!
I do understand the trepidation, and you've rightfully earned it because of all of the shit fostered over the years by this organization, and perhaps, you've also contributed to a more reluctant stance by continuing to use the former name in reference to them. They are now the COMMANDERS, not the former name, and the Commanders are the team that can/will win a SB. I know that it's tough ole' friend, but if you will allow yourself to imagine a team with actual star power and superior talent those weaknesses that you dread won't be as weak or unaddressed as you believe them to be.

When in the NFL draft and drafting high, you look for game-changers. The problem with drafting high, it usually means you have no QB. When you draft a true game-changer, you usually aren’t drafting real high the next draft because they make your team better. In today’s NFL, you need a top ten QB to win big.

The point is, it makes far more sense to trade for a game-changer like Garrett with multiple firsts than it does trading up in the draft for a game-changer because the rookie may not be a game-changer. Garrett is single-handedly capable of improving our defense.

You could also wait for stupid franchises to let go of game changing type players. That happens every year too.

Luvu comes to mind. He is relatively young, everybody on carolina knew he was good, and carolina management didnt wouldnt or couldnt lock him up.

Same with saquon in philly.

Smart GMs pounce on those players too.

Gutting drafts is a mistake, because it robs you of your ability to field a team of talented cheap players.

The reason our defense was so bad this past year at least partly due to the fact that all of the high round defensive draft picks by rivera sucked or were released: chase young, forbes, jamin davis, st juste, mathis.

If one of them played up to their draft status, the defense improves. If all five of them played even close to their draft status, the commanders are in the super bowl.

i dont feel pressure of having a certain window of time to do something . we will have JD5 for 10-15 years i am not about killing the goose who lays the golden eggs for a short term gain . we made the NFC title game with great coaching and a shaky roster . we can improve the roster by getting a TEE signing a few more quality free agents , and drafting speed and run stoppers on defense .

if we dont have draft resources , and we burn up cap space then we cant reload . the price for garret will be dear , and in a strong edge and DT draft class as well as o/line i would pass and look for another option
