OUCH

Possible Lions draft target Devonta Smith measures even smaller than expected (usatoday.com)

Per Albert Breer, Smith’s official measurements were a scary-low 166 pounds on his just-over-6-foot frame. That’s lower than his official Alabama listing of 175 and the generally projected weight of 170-172 offered by most NFL draft analysts and scouting services.

At 166 pounds, expect Smith to face even harsher scrutiny about his long-term durability and ability to have the impact in the NFL he did in his amazing senior season for the Crimson Tide.

Unless someone passes on Pitts or Chase we are getting Waddle or trading back. Outside chance we take one of the top 2 OT too but I am kinda glad that this came up.

Apparently Tutu Atwell only weighed in at 149lbs....

There is a chance Pitts goes top 3. Has a TE ever gone that high before?

You truly aren't expecting me to recall that are you ?
Best I can recall was Vernon Davis at No.6 (?) however, I'm pretty sure Ditka went No.3 or No.4 back in early 60's

That's correct and he'll probably end up as an UDFA outside of some crazy team who has picks to blow.

Having watched DeVonta for all 4 years of his CFB career and not recalling missing a single game, I'd still have some very slight reservations regarding staying in one piece. You cannot disregard his play and survivability in the SEC against NFL body type players.

Ya know I'd love to have any one of Pitts, Chase, Waddle or Smith but I'm going with Slater over Sewell as the pick. I'd still take Sewell should the former get drafted before the latter and I don't see that happening but there's always a possibility.

I'm sure all the WR lovers will bring their argument that you'd be passing on a once in a generation (which seems to be 5 years in today's analogy) Receiver and I'd understand that position however, I'll protect the current or next QB with either one of the top two OT prospects.

You can write any comment you want to regarding drafting a RT on day 2 or day 3 as a lock down day 1 starter (some might become that) or a development player to take over next year and my retort will be that whichever player you chose won't be as high valued a prospect as Slater or Sewell.

I'd be looking at drafting two WR's out of current slotted picks NO.41, No.72, No.101 and No. 112.

I'm also anticipating Holmes trading down from No.41 (that'll be the sweet spot, imo) and quite possible twice garnering an extra 4th - maybe two - or a 4th and a 5th. It'll all depend on who's available on their board and any possible teams willing to trade up.

I wouldn't hate acquiring a couple more 4th round picks and maybe even a 5th by moving down from that No. 41 pick 2 or 3 times. You have to have teams in need though and it's pretty damn easy to simply put a scenario in writing.

Hypothetically moving down rom No. 41 down to No. 46 (NE - unless they blow this pick in 1st round) gets you their No.122 and then No. 46 down to No. 51 (Was) gets you No.124 - and once more from No. 51 down to No. 53 (Ten) or No. 54 (Ind) gets you 5th round picks of either No. 165 or No. 166.

You could still get a starting WR or starting S or a rotational Edge rusher - maybe a coverage LB (although I believe that's much too early for that position) at No. 53/54

My Hypothetical - draft for now - with those trade downs I listed

No. 7 OT RaShawn Slater
No. 53 WR Dyami Brown
No. 72 LB Pete Werner
No. 101 WR D'Wayne Eskridge
No. 112 CB - Slot - Ambry Thomas or Elijah Molden or Shaun Wade
No. 122 S James Wiggins
No. 124 LB Garrett Wallow
No. 153 DT Bobby Brown
No. 165 Ta'Quon Graham

No Edge, RG, or QB. I wouldn't waste a pick on a QB in this draft - maybe UDFA Shane Buechele

I do not expect Elijah Moore, Toney, Marshall to be available at No.41

too early for Dyami Brown even at No. 53. Better value at NO. 72.

LB Pete Werner at No. 72 might be 6-12 draft slots early for him but do not see him available at No. 101

WR Eskridge and CB Thomas probably a little too late at No. 101 and No. 112 respectively

This isn't the 2000s NFL anymore. You can't just crush a guy going across the middle andake him afraid or alligator arm the rest of the game.

I honestly think if you gave teams the option 32/32 teams would rather draft a 5'10 185 lb Tyreek Hill over a 6'3 215 lb Micheal Thomas. Thomas has had a season with 150 catches. Teams would still rather have that speed and that weapon of Hill and his 80 catches.

Obviously you'd rather take size with speed like Chase. But Smith just had one of the top WR seasons I remember. Playing against the best teams in the country. And he won the Heisman while doing it. You don't not draft that guy because you wish he was 20 pounds bigger. Not in today's NFL anyways.

I've been defending D. Smith non-stop but you won't see that coming from me regarding Atwell.

The league is littered with small or thin framed players at various positions scat-back, wr, cb, s but I can guarantee some GM's and HC's will erase D. Smith's name right off their board.

I'd have no damn problem if he was drafted by the Lions but you still have a lot of old school minds making decisions for teams that don't or won't think like you or I or others who would back drafting a player like D. Smith.

This would be great but I think Brown might go earlier then round 5 due to how weak that position is this year

The Detroit Lions’ Pro Bowl center Frank Ragnow will be representing the team in Cleveland to announce the players drafted by GM Brad Holmes. Currently, the Lions hold picks No. 41, 72, and 101 on Day 2 of the draft, but those picks could change if Holmes works any draft day trades.

Hock and Kittle hang out quite a bit in off-season and now they have this commercial.
