I don't think the reason they brought Calhoun back has anything to do with his development. He's been in the big leagues since 2017
They said they wanted to get a good look at him before the end of the season because they had to make a decision.

That's true. I think if you compared salaries now to then and ticket prices now to then, it would be a lot more in line.

Then there is the TV revenue. Compare that to the difference in what it costs to watch games on TV. Every game they broadcasted used to be on free TV.

They are just going to keep raising ticket prices and TV rights prices. If the Rangers ever get good again, and they quit running ticket specials, I will never be able to afford to go anywhere near as often as I used to. And more and more carriers are going to stop having Rangers games on.

Not to mention the absolute absurd concession prices they have now. Decent ticket (second deck), parking, and two beers and a hot dog, and for me that's at least $100

True - and yeah, that's more or less them talking out of their ass. What I meant was more along the lines of, if he's healthy, he has to be activated.

I think the decision on him has been made already. Calhoun may know this. Tough luck.
Best of luck to him when he moves on in a few weeks, ala Patrick Wisdom.

I guess Wisdom and Calhoun cannot be as elite as Matt Davidson.

Woodward is not rebuild friendly. I am in favor of replacing him as soon as the season ends.
Sandler said it was inconsequential and he is getting in as PH. I just think a guy they were high on Andy has missed all that time starts almost daily to at least try to trade him.
Other thought he was potentially still spooked by LHP.
Woodward knew him in LA system. Whole thing puzzles me. As slow as this is going rebuilding wise, Calhoun needs to show great strides for the Rangers to keep him with what is coming up. But give him his shot

I don't think so either. If we are it is mostly more of who we don't want than who we do want. Almost this entire board wants FA's this year and add more later.
I am ok with only one big free agent and maybe a pitcher as a placeholder. I think some of our youngsters need more work but mainly more so to keep powder dry for many guys who could get picked up in rule 5. Will gauge better after the season. For a few more wins I do not want to stunt growth

Also Ibanez may be deemed higher then Calhoun on the team pecking order. His stats are at least decent

My deal though is if a guy is a DH exclusively he should be near the top of the hitters on your team.
I am partial to guys who are real good defensively and can interchange otherwise

You put too much stock into public statements, especially Woody
Yeah it is rhetoric IMO but me thinks Woody is not much of a challenger. New age leadership

I will give him the benefit of the doubt as being truthful rather than a liar until he proves to be a liar. We have had that to be the case with another manager a few years back.

I can't read his mind so I will take him at his word. Now if he overhyped every single player I would take it with a grain of salt. He overhypes a lot of guys, but some he doesn't. I think it would be a good assumption to think, overall, he thinks more of the guys he overhypes than he does the rest. He might not think as highly as he lets on, but he still thinks well of them. I certainly don't think he is calling skills elite in public and then trashing them behind the scenes.

Optimism is a good thing, but someone who fakes their optimism is a liar. I don't think he is faking it.

I can't see Willie as a starter in the OF. Same for IF. DH is his best bet and he will likely not succeed there either. His best attribute is he is so dang likable. If he does end up DH I won't care. He can hit.

Longterm, he is probably gone either way, whether it is this offseason or a little later.

I don't even consider it a matter of truth. It's like in Bull Durham. Sports media needs their interviews, so the interviewee just rattles of random vague shit. Yeah Woody's the manager, but even then - he's still going to be a vague mouthpiece just trying to fill someone's airtime.

It's hard to judge him on his managerial skills because he hasn't been given that much to work with, player-wise. He's not a firebrand. He's kind of just there.

Willie has been dealt a raw hand with the injuries, but he projected to be a DH before all that happened, so his value was tied into his bat. It really sucks it hasn't been given a decent shot to development its potential.

I think so too. I am glad he could play LF sin a pinch but he needs to be seen primarily as a DH and if so he needs to be an elite hitter
That being said bad breaks and lack of commitment to his development have hurt his potential. He has better bat to eye skills than maybe all guys on MLB active roster but alas it looks like his ship has sailed

With the NL possibly going the DH route, willie will find a home if not here, somewhere. We just need better outfielders and we have plenty here and in the farm system who can also DH.
