Why is playing Culberson good for the rebuild?

Like money, length of contract is up to the market. What it takes to sign the FA(AAV and contract length) should be taken into account before the pursuit of that free agent. It you try to go after a FA and try to significantly undercut the market you are wasting your time and making yourself look silly. Either pursue or don't.

Calhoun sits again. Not sure if I were him I would want to be a Ranger. Seems like he is picked over at times for good or bad reasons

Woodward is not rebuild friendly. I am in favor of replacing him as soon as the season ends.

Devil's advocate:

Aren't the last 9 games basically as consequential as Spring Training? I don't think we're learning much about anyone at the end of this season.

I don't think so either. If we are it is mostly more of who we don't want than who we do want. Almost this entire board wants FA's this year and add more later.

They brought Calhoun back before the season ended for a reason. It appears the front office and the manager are on different pages much like Wash once was after they brought Profar up.

They moved guys from AA to AAA with 10 games remaining for a reason.

I will take any stretch of games in the regular season as being greatly more consequential than ST.

Something will have to give, I would think. Teams can't sink that much money into dudes and also build competitive teams around them.
I think I have heard that since Catfish Hunter and Reggie Jackson were free agents though. That was back when adults could sit in the bleachers for $4 though, and kids were $2.

Then let's do that again.

I get your point, but if there was a chart that compared salaries now to then as they related to the standard "cost of living", it would not be straight line

I don't think the reason they brought Calhoun back has anything to do with his development. He's been in the big leagues since 2017

That's true. I think if you compared salaries now to then and ticket prices now to then, it would be a lot more in line.

Then there is the TV revenue. Compare that to the difference in what it costs to watch games on TV. Every game they broadcasted used to be on free TV.

They are just going to keep raising ticket prices and TV rights prices. If the Rangers ever get good again, and they quit running ticket specials, I will never be able to afford to go anywhere near as often as I used to. And more and more carriers are going to stop having Rangers games on.
