According to a league source, the #stlblues have re-signed defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk to a four-year contract extension.

Well, that takes care of Berglund and Shattenkirk. Pietrangelo still needs to be locked up, though.

Shattenkirk's deal is $17 million over four years. #stlblues

Man...that's freaking nice.

A lot of people think they should take Monahan if both he and Lindholm are still available. Actually, even though he's not a centre, a lot of people think the Flames should take Nichushkin if he's available.

Spots 5-8 are really a pretty much no miss, which is why the Jackets want to be there. If one of the top four goes off the reservation and takes Fucale or someone else from lower, it will get real interesting.

I think Lindholm has a bit more upside but it's pretty much a wash between him and Monahan. I'd be just fine with either. Kekeleinen is more familiar with Lindholm though.

They need a bullet in the chamber to land Vanek, and that is allegedly close. I personally think it will be a mistake to lose RyJo, and some GM will be getting a lot of kudos if he pries the kid away. I would expect Johansen or Atkinson to be part of a Vanek deal. Losing either is worrysome.

I think with the talent in this draft spread pretty wide (solid guys all the way down to 20ish) it's less of a risk to move down than most years. I'd actually be just fine with the Jackets standing firm, but Lindholm and Monahan are both pretty much exactly what the Jackets need next year. I think the Jackets have to take that shot.

Vanek is entering the final year of his contract which pays him more than 7M. I wouldn't give up Johansson for him. Kekalainen better have an extension in place if he makes the trade.

I think it would be a huge mistake to let Johansen go for almost anyone. I sincerely believe he is a year or so away from being Jason Spezza. I guess the key is if Buffalo thinks Vanek will stay or if they will lose him for nothing at season's end or have their hand forced at the deadline. They might be against the wall to do something now. Especially if the Jackets move in front of Buffalo in the draft order and BUF needs to make sure that CBJ don't take their guy.

I hope a pick and a different forward are enough to get him. Or two picks and a roster D and goalie prospect for Vanek and Miller. :D

The Sabres don't need goalie prospects. They've got Enroth, Hackett & Makarov. I just have a hard time giving up much for rentals. I guess it's because Garth has only given up 2nd round picks for them. I want nothing to do with Miller. Do you realize Vanek & Miller would add over 13M to the Blue Jackets payroll?

Tampa Bay looking to move Ryan Malone?!? Okay Stevie Y, how about the following:

Stempniak + 6th pick + 28th pick for Malone + 3rd pick + 33rd pick

fuck that means hes on his way to Vancouver

At one point, I had assumed Malone was the bad contract that we would take back in the Luongo to Tampa trade.

At the end of the season, they had 18m in space with Anisimov and Bob as RFA and Aucoin and Prospal UFA. Arty just cut 1.5 of that. Depending on who they send, they should be able to afford both and still pay Bob should he not go to KHL.

Wiz is making 7. That's a wash with one of them. Him and one of the D prospects, if they don't need goalies. Jackets have a ton of D prospects too.

Man, the Jackets and Flames are all set for a killer draft. They have three picks in the first round, and can easily either stock up on prospects or make a VERY attractive package for some other team. I don't know that I'd make a move if I were Calgary, but Buffalo might be well served to move up (they have two more picks in the second, that's nuts).

@RenLavoieRDS 10m
If Kris Letang has to be traded by Penguins, he does NOT have a preferred destination. #RDS

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, 43 will enjoy this one.

@TSNBobMcKenzie 4m Re: the Letang situation in PIT: longer he goes unsigned - PIT has made a substantial offer - more reasonable it is to assume trade possible

Buckle up baby...I saw a rumor involving Letang to MTL, a three way trade, and Subban being involved. That makes no sense, but man, wouldn't a huge trade like that be awesome?

Also, Chris Kunitz got a three year extension. A meager raise of about 100K. I'm alright with that (but I think it signals an end of Super Duper :( )

I have already used the moniker "twatwaffle" on Portzline. "Dingleberry" has become a general descriptive term on this board. So I will need to go into my think tank and come up with a proper nickname for that FUCKING IMBECILE.

Also, the MTL thing is so far fetched...came from someone who heard rumblings of it at a Lemieux foundation event. Probably just trying to sound important for people. I just happen to love big trades.
