Feels too little too late

Did you want them to take a small CB at 5? I dont think anybody did. Hugh millen said on kjr of all 180lb corners taken in round one the last 25 years only one made all pro, Antoine winfield and he was a late first round pick. A guy that size at 5 was totally unprecedented. Seems like a high risk pick at that spot, why not take a risk on carter who could be a generational talent?

If the car accident didnt happen, he might have gone at 3. I dont think it was about talent.
I think it had to do a lot more with on field issue like not getting a glowing report from coaches to conditioning then the off field issues like the car accident

Im not buying we picked bpa, we will see how things play out though.
Size of a player has a lot to do with stature of the player. Does the body type allow him to pick up some additional weight. He is very young and can be still growing. Teams have the expertise to evaluate this and definitely use it in consideration when drafting a player

You dont want a guy playing CB to put on weight. Im worried his size combined with his play style will put him on IR

This did not seem to be a concern with the team.

One has to wonder just how many scouts a team employs. Just how many hours upon hours they watch film. One has to think about how much work has been put in to researching a player before the draft him. So much expertise goes in to help his, that it seems foolish for a fan to say that they have done it all wrong only 48 hours after the draft. We can have factual opinion on this a couple years s from now when we see how it works out.

Let’s not forget, John and Pete have made he playoffs ten out of the last thirteen years l. You will have a troubles finding a handful of teams that can say that over the last 13 years

One of the reasons why I was big on Carter was that everything I read said that this was a weak class for interior lineman. So once we didn't go with Carter, the gap between 2 and 15 in DTs wasn't that great.

I don't think anyone is arguing that after Carter the interior DL position dropped off significantly after the draft. I'm glad Seattle didn't spend their late 1st and 2nds on interior DL after passing on Carter.

I still think Witherspoon was a horrible pick.

I get the attractiveness of his playstyle, but this feels like Jamal Adams 2.0... he'll be injured in no time IMO...

I still stand by my F grade.

First off no one knows if that is true, secondly, the event did happen, third he had a history of being out of shape ( had to be helped off the field during the Bulldogs vs Crimson Tide championship due to exhaustion despite having limited snaps). The post-game interview he was asked what he has to improve on and he said "Conditioning. That's the first thing I need to work on" Conditioning has been an ongoing battle for him and the coaching staff ( who had him running the treadmill consistently). Having a life-changing event for him like the draft and putting in zero work to shine in either the combine or pro day should concern any team thinking of drafting him. Instead, he's out closing down clubs getting drunk with friends.
The guy has bust written all over him.

You realize that nearly every draft player picks up weight as a pro, right? Denzel Ward. Joe Haden as well.

A lot of us wanted Carter. And they may end up regretting not taking him. But it isn't just about the car accident.

Well I guess we ignore just about every draft ranking then maybe he wasn't BPA.

Still a ridiculous grade.

Some appear in denial. CB was our second largest need coming into the draft (behind DL). It's why Seattle was constantly mocked taking a CB. The reason I thought that wasn't gonna happen is that Pete has always shied away from them in the first round in the past. Definitely not a bad pick at that spot. Now, he just needs to show he was worth of that selection.

Yeah I really didn't expect him to take a corner. And I personally would have wanted Gonzales over Witherspoon. But if there is one thing I am not going to do it is question Pete's judgment of defensive backs.

Pete does tend to like corners who'll mix it up in run support.

Anywho, enough pearl clutching about our top picks. Either they are going to pan out or they aren't.

I have to say I'm pretty excited to see how Hall, Morris, and Owutumi play. Hall had some pretty darn good production playing for a mid tier SEC team without a lot of top tier talent near him. He ran a VERY respectable 4.55 at the combine.

I watched a lot of Michigan games and Morris seemed to be one of the constant playmakers. From what I have read his draft stock took a huge hit because he ran a super slow 40. Pete told him to bulk up and they would take and Morris went from 275 to 290+ on draft day. He could be a real nice player for us

Oluwatumi was the best linemen on a good Michigan line. He dropped in the draft because he is a pure center with no positional versatility but who cares about that if he can be a competent center for us?

Great video on Oluwatimi. I honestly feel like he is going to be the best late pick we made and could be the day 1 starter at Center.

I absolutely loved that pick, and at some point mocked him to us (so that makes me feel a bit more proud lol).

I imagine speed guys drop weight to run the 40 but witherspoon didnt run the 40 at the combine. Thats another red flag to me. Njigba didnt run it either.

The arrest warrant led in part I feel to a shitty pro day. Saying that wasnt why he dropped is a bit of a retcon.
Well I guess we ignore just about every draft ranking then maybe he wasn't BPA.
Espn had Nolan smith rated higher. Im not gonna go digging through every ranking but thats one that says njigba wasn't bpa

Every draft comes down to hitting on players no matter what position or when drafted.
The lower you pick the less likely they will work out
First off no one knows if that is true, secondly, the event did happen, third he had a history of being out of shape ( had to be helped off the field during the Bulldogs vs Crimson Tide championship due to exhaustion despite having limited snaps). The guy has bust written all over him.
That wasn't a concern before the arrest warrant. He was a consensus top 3 player.
Yes but those that want Carter are like :lalala:
I wanted an investment in the DL, carter was an obvious choice. Im very concerned the DL is going to be the main weakness that holds this team back from going deep into the playoffs. That and OL.
His size is a concern for his long-term future but he's going to make an impact immediately and your going to love watching him play.
He probably will be a good player, my issue is our dbs were very far from the problem on defense. Its an upgrade but a minor one over what we could have had on the DL.
