MLB.com just dropped their new top 100 prospects list:

14. Kyle Harrison
18. Marco Luciano
73. Luis Matos
That is the lowest Luciano has ever been, I think. Bad trend.

Kinda surprised Whisenhunt didn't make the list.

(A/A+/AA) 49.2 IP, 12.9 K/9, 3.1 BB/9, 2.90 ERA

Reports are that his changeup is so filthy that nobody below AAA is going to be able to deal with it and it won't really be challenged until he makes it to the Show. Comps to Cole Hamels in that respect.

He's been fairly ridiculous.

He is getting serious top 100 talk.

It may be needed, since Harry has not been crisp his last 4 outings…

4 G, 15.1 IP, 6.46 ERA, 1.036 OPSa, 21/8 K/BB, 25(BB+H)/15.1(IP)

He needs to miss bats. He is still getting the Ks, but he is giving up hits, and when he does, they are extra bases. Dude needs more time on the vine.

Interestingly enough, Luciano is finally starting to hit at AA. For the month of June, he is hitting .253/.380/.507. This after hitting .185/.292/.432 in May (he missed April due to injury).
I noticed that he may have a lazy eye. I have no idea if this affects the ability to watch the ball from the pitcher's hand but it may be worth noting.

Not sure what is going on with Trevor McDonald. He was activated from the 7 day IL on May 3rd by Eugene. He threw 3 innings on May 6th and hasn't pitched since then. However, he is still listed as active on their roster. I would guess he's gone back on the IL but I don't know the injury.

Hopefully one of our coaches has made note as well...

Strange addition. The Giants already have Joey Bart, Ricardo Genoves and Jacob Nottingham at AAA. Are they going to put Reetz at AA or release one of Genoves or Nottingham (or bump one of them to AA)?

Bart has lost his shine. That doesn’t mean he is worthless, just that he isn’t reliable at this point. So you have to have your eyes open for other opportunities.

Not sure Jackson Reetz is that opportunity. What does he do that Bart, Nottingham or Genoves don't do?

No clue. Not sure I ever heard of him. And not really interested in looking him up until he gives me a reason to do so. Minor league FA signings, in all honesty, could not interest me less. That is deck-chair management on the Titanic, imho.

Minor league performers 6.29 after the big club's desultory loss:

AA
Wade Meckler: 4-6, 2B, 2 RBI
Vaun Brown: 2-6, 2B, HR, 3 RBI, SB
Marco Luciano: 2-4, 2B, RBI, 2 BB
Logan Wyatt: 2-5, HR, 4 RBI
Carson Seymour: 4 IP, 2 ER, 0 BB, 4 SO

AAA
Brett Wisely: 2-4, 2B, HR, 3 RBI
Joey Bart: 2-3, HR, 4 RBI
Kyle Harrison: 3.2 IP, 3 ER, 3 BB, 7 SO

Wade Meckler continues to hit. He has a .394/.494/.465 line with more walks (14) than strikeouts (10) in 87 plate appearances since his promotion to AA. He really has not cooled down much at all.

Got my answer. I haven't checked recently, but, at one point, I saw that Nottingham was playing more 1st base than catcher at Sacramento. Hey, they got Ford Proctor down there, after all.

Churn, baby, Churn. It’s a FZ inferno.

Just because he is doing well with the big league club doesn't mean that it justifies the unnecessary churn he seems to favor. However, he has been a lot more restrained this year, so I'm glad to see that.

Fangraphs dropped their top 49 SF prospects list today:

1. Luis Matos
2. Kyle Harrison
3. Patrick Bailey
4. Marco Luciano
5. Rayner Arias

FWIW Fangraphs has typically been higher on Bailey than other publications, even ranking him as the No. 76 prospect in baseball prior to the 2022 season.

I LOVE seeing Arias getting some national love. He is destroying the DSL this year, and was a million dollar baby, so he isn’t a “who?” Prospect. He may be special.

Matos is exciting, so it is hard to argue against him at #1, but I think we have enough blue chippers that that is an aggressive placement for him.

Bailey has done so well in SF, it is hard to argue his placement as well. He has the defense, that is not arguable. He appears to have the “locker room leadership” as well. His bat is a little out of left field, but I have heard scout-types say that his approach is one that can work at the MLB level while floundering a bit in the minors. I don’t understand the mechanics of hitting enough to offer my own opinion on that, but it is a possibility. I hate to say it because it isn’t fair, but the Buster comparisons are becoming hard to ignore.

Overall, I like this list. I would like to see Fitzgerald, Brown, Winn and McCray represented, but I don’t know who to take off the existing list to add those guys.

Damn we have gotten deep, fast.

The Schmitt ranking seems a bit rough. Yeah, he's scuffling a bit in the big leagues but number 7?!?

I think Whisenhunt has a chance to move up the rankings quickly. He looks good.
