Speaking of Bart and Bailey, do you think the Giants will carry both once Bart is ready? Or will one get optioned to AAA?

Gonna be tricky to manage all these prospects with the existing veterans. Is there even room for Matos? Might not be room for Bart unless he kills it in AAA, right now Bailey is well above him.

Maybe they make a trade of a vet to make room for Matos, and/or trade Bart

I don't want to trade him, but I wonder if the Red Sox would overpay for Yaz...

There isn’t room for Matos currently. But the way he is hitting, that becomes less of an issue. A Yaz trade is certainly possible. But I wouldn’t expect a huge return if he was traded. His value is almost entirely in his name.

As for Bart, he needs to earn his way back to SF. And I have heard rumors that the Giants are open to trading Bart for a SP (though with Harrison, Whisenhunt and Roupp as close as they are, i don’t really trust those rumors).

Yaz seems to be crashing offensively, just like he did last year. When he went on the IL after April 30th, his OPS was at .854. As of today, it is at .770. He's gone 11 for 58 since returning from the IL, although 6 of those hits are for extra bases (4 doubles, a triple and a home run). He has also walked 8 times and struck out 23(!) times.

Sean Hjelle has looked better as a starter since getting sent to AAA. He's made 7 starts and posted a 3.10 ERA (really significant since RiverCats' pitchers have a hard time posting ERAs below 5), 1.207 WHIP and 6.2 K/9. While he is limiting walks (2.5 per 9, better than anyone on that pitching staff), his K rate and home run rate (1.2 per 9) are a bit concerning.

And was used almost entirely as a bully arm in SF. So maybe he should be given a semi-long look as a starter in SF before closing his book. Same with Beck (though Beck has not lost his shine the way Hjelli has).

Yaz does have legit good D, though.

But I have been saying for years that he is insanely overrated. He is an OK 4th OFer at best. But the Giants have been treating him like a #1 OFer because of his marketing potential.

Not saying he isn't a major league ballplayer, just backing your statement that the Giants may not get much for him if they trade him.

That's why I said trade him to Boston where the name has the most value obviously

In a video game universe, I agree. But Yaz has been pretty clear that he does not want to play for the Sox. He wants to be his own man. Not his grandfather’s grandson.

Oh, wait. FZ is the one pulling the trigger, so Yaz’s preferences are not part of the calculation.

You can't have too many catchers (remember when the Giants were very short of catching depth?) For FZ, can't have too many weak hitting middle infielders.

Keep Bart, but if there is a solid offer, take it.
Hey, FZ has both in Ford Proctor. Mind you, he has only caught one game this year, but he did catch. And he's played most of his games at the infield corners, but he's played at 2nd and short as well. This is FZ's prototypical player! I wonder when he will get called back up? It couldn't be that the .228/.372/.266 slash in the PCL is keeping him back?

Not sure we could possibly get anything worthwhile for him, so I tend to agree. I think using him on the weak side of a 65/35 platoon would be more valuable than any garbage another team would be willing to ship in return.

Don’t forget that we still have 2 more legit catching prospects (even if not of the blue chip variety) in the minors. And we will likely spend at least one 1st rounder on a catcher in the next 3 years or so.

Who knows? Maybe Susac is still available. He was going to be an All-World catcher according to some board denizen, IIRC.

So we can for sure trade Bart....

He is very available, seeing as he isn't signed with anyone. Maybe he has teamed up with Nick Lowery . . .

And the all star 3rd baseman, Joaquin Arias.
