Tejada is probably a free agent at the end of the season. He may be brought back on a minor league deal with an invitation to spring training. However, he didn't look good at all in the big leagues this year, or in his career for that matter. I'd pass.

Well, they won't be getting a winning record this year. And they're not playing well at all right now.

But I think they have a shot in the playoffs. Poor Augusta didn't make the playoffs, but that probably means they'll send up some guys. My guess is Bryan Reynolds, Jake McCasland, and Heath Slatton, and maybe Johneshwy Fargas.

Loving seeing Tyler Beede finish the season strong. Just dominant his last 7 starts. 8 total runs in those starts.

Pitching Line: IP-H-ER-R-BB-K-Pitch Coutn (if applicable)

Sacramento (69-75) finishes the season with a 4-3 loss

Ali Castillo 2-5 (.309), 3B, 1 R, CS (3rd). Finishes the MILB season batting .313 over AA and AAA, though with an utter lack of power (0 homers, 19 XBH in 115 games) and a lack of SB (10 in 17 chances) across both levels. Played 2B, SS, and 3B.

Joan Gregorio
5.0-3-1-1-3-9-86 (5.28 ERA). Solid finish to what seems like a bad season, but was really a nice step for him after looking at the whole. It was basically his first fully healthy season, with the 134 IP easily his career high (previous was 90). He also gave up less hits than IP, averaged 10.2 K/9 IP, and had a 3:1 K:B ratio.

Richmond (62-79) ends the misery with a 2-0 loss in 10 innings

Steven Duggar 0-2 (.321), 3 BB, 2 K, SB (9th), picked off 1st. A great breakout season from the 2015 draftee. Finished the season with a very solid .302/.388/.448 (.836 OPS) line, with double-digit homers (10), steals (15), and doubles (28) with 8 triples across A+ and AA. He led the Giants MiLB with 72 walks! Played CF and RF. A true across the board talent. Should open in AAA and could make a case for a job in SF by '17 or '18. To toot my own horn a bit, I predicted a Duggar breakout in the 2016 prospects thread back in the pre-season.

Andrew Suarez 8.0-2-0-0-1-8-97 (3.98 ERA). Suarez finished the season on an absolute tear. He finished the season on a 15 IP scoreless inning streak. On July 2nd, his ERA for Richmond was 6.14, he finished with a 3.95 ERA. Another 2015 draftee to make it to AA, with a shot to impact the Giants by 2017 or 2018.

San Jose (68-72) prepare for the playoffs with a 9-7 loss in 14 innings

Robbie Garvey 2-7 (.269), 1 R, SB (11th). See below
Heath Quinn 2-6 (.353), 1 BB, 1 R. The 2016 draftee finishes the regular season batting .344/.434/.564 (.998 OPS!!) with 9 homers and 21 doubles in 60 games. Pretty great first impression. He should be San Jose's opening RFer in 2017.
Jonah Arenado 2-5 (.254), 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 R. Named the team MVP (mostly because he was the only mainstay in the lineup, with Ronnie Jebavy). The younger Arenado finished with a nice 17 homers and a very nice 36 doubles. Unfortunately, he only walked 18 times in 128 games for a .286 OBP. The power is there, his defense is nice, the swing is smooth, but he has a lot to work on and a long way to go.
Miguel Gomez 2-2 (.267), HR (9th in SJ, 17th overall), 3 RBI, 2 R, 1 BB. Gomez will finish with a .330/.363/.519 line (.882 OPS), but it was a tale of 2 levels for him. A .371, .933 OPS in Augusta (66 games), and a .267, .802 OPS in San Jose (43 games). His defense steadily improved, and he really started to catch fire in San Jose late. Still a lot to like in the bat, you just wonder how long it will last.

Jose Reyes 6.0-6-5-3-1-4-86 (5.38 ERA)
Reyes Moronta 1.0-1-0-0-1-2 (2.59 ERA). Reyes finishes his best season with a 14.2 K/9 IP and a .195 BAA. He has a high-90s fastball that can reach 100 and a true plus-plus slider
Jeff Soptic 4.0-0-0-0-0-4-35 (6.75 ERA). LMFAO. Clearly, the Giants were not trying to waste any more of their pitchers before the playoffs, so they rolled with Soptic until they died. Well, in the most meaningless game of the season, he somehow pitches 4 perfect innings. What a joke.
Robbie Garvey 1.0-4-2-2-0-0 (18.00 ERA). Finally, the Giants folded and went with a position player. Poor Robbie had to be the fall guy. After being exclusively a pinch-runner for the Dodgers AA team last year (appeared in 24 games, every single one as a pinch runner), he picked up 251 ABs this year and batted a respectable .283/.350/.378 line and pitched an inning.

Augusta (76-63) closes out a good season with a 5-0 loss

Nothing here.

Heath Slatton 5.1-5-2-0-1-4-75 (2.37 ERA). The 2015 18th rounder finished the season in the rotation for 3 starts, went 15.1 IP giving up 1 ER, with 12 K and 3 BB. Definitely a Winter Ball candidate if teh Giants decide to stretch him into a starter next year.

Salem-Keizer (32-42) celebrates the season with a 12-2 win

Gio Brusa 2-4 (.264), 2 RBI, 2 R, 1 BB
Ryan Kirby 2-4 (.260), 1 RBI, 3 R, 1 BB
Jacob Heyward (.286), 4 RBI, 2 2B, 2 R, 1 BB. I'll be interested to see where he's placed in 2017. Stayed in Rookie-ball longer than I thought after having a 1.067 OPS and being a college kid. Only played 4 games for Salem. Hopefully he goes to Augusta, if he's ready.

Melvin Adon 5.0-5-1-1-2-5 (5.48 ERA)

And that's it. San Jose is the only team to qualify for the playoffs, with their first game on Wednesday in San Jose.

And to add one more point to this conversation, both Grant Green and Ramiro Pena out hit Tejada at AAA. I'd much rather have one of them competing than Tejada.

On a related note, I'm upset that the Cal League is being condensed by two teams, both fleeing to the Carolinas. The West Coast, with its high population, is woefully underrepresented in the minor leagues (California only has two levels, for example, within the state boundaries). Now it gets worse.

Giants Rally For Game 1 Victory Over Blaze | San Jose Giants News

Notes -
* The Giants went just 3-10 against Bakersfield at Municipal Stadium during the regular season.
* The Blaze were 2-for-13 with runners in scoring position on Wednesday and left 11 on base.
* San Jose's first at-bat with a runner in scoring position was Gomez's two-run single in the bottom of the sixth.
* Davis hit seven out of his 18 home runs during the regular season against Bakersfield. Five of Bennett's nine homers this year also came versus the Blaze.
* The Giants won despite striking out 16 times.
* Halstead and Reynolds (1-for-3) were both making their California League debuts after joining San Jose on Wednesday from Augusta (A).
* Center fielder Ronnie Jebavy (shoulder dislocation) left the game in the top of the first after colliding with the second baseman Bennett while attempting to make a diving catch.

Sorry I wasn't able to do these, busy with work.

Ronnie Jebavy was hurt in the top of the 1st in this game after colliding with T.J. Bennett, was down on the field at least 10 minutes. Had to be carried off with a stretcher and went to the hospital. Dislocated shoulder, possibly broken collar bone.

Dylan Davis couldn't play the rest of the series after dealing with a foot injury.

In case anyone is interested, Vin Mazzaro, Ramiro Pena and Ruben Tejada elected minor league free agency last week.

This from Baseball America:

"Those players who elect free agency, meanwhile, are those who have earned that right after their contracts are assigned outright to a minor league club. Typically they qualify under Article XX(D) of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, which grants the right to elect free agency to:

• “Any player who has at least three years of major league service . . .”

• “Any player whose contract is assigned outright to a minor league club for the second time or any subsequent time in his career . . .”

A player eligible to elect free agency under these conditions does not have to exercise that right immediately following an in-season outright assignment. He retains the right to elect free agency until Oct. 15 unless he is “returned to a major league roster prior to making such election.”

Occasionally a player will qualify for free agency following an outright assignment under Article XIXA(2), which states that players with “five or more years of major league service . . . shall not be assigned otherwise than to another major league club, without the player’s written consent.” This clause covers the following players in this installment: Roberto Hernandez, Don Kelly, James Russell, Brendan Ryan and Ruben Tejada.
