Smart move.

Buy low when he's injured which is an injury he'll fully recover from and only lock him up until 2016 when he'll hit the age where he'll need to be replaced.

The San Francisco 49ers signed defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey to a two-year contract extension worth nearly $11 million through 2016, though he is recovering from a potential season-ending injury to his left biceps for which he had surgery on Aug. 4.

As part of the pact, Dorsey received a signing bonus of $2,075,000 up front and $500,000 of his $2.3 million salary for 2014 will be guaranteed, a league source told ESPN.com's Field Yates. His base salary for this season was previously non-guaranteed. The total value of the new deal could reach $10.975 million, the source said.

Dial is better suited at DE and Dorsey is better than I. Williams. That's not a knock on Williams but there was a reason Doresy was a top 10 pick and Williams went undrafted.

It was not a buy low contract. He is being paid to sit this season out. I'm not sure if this a wise move at this time when the 9ers are dealing with other contracts.

This concerns me as a bad move but if he comes back and can be what he was before I won't bitch so much about how much they guaranteed for this contract.

It was just a torn bicep which shouldn't impact his ability to return to form at all once he recovers.

Any leg injury on the other hand would have some cause for concern.

I agree that he will recover but the 9ers are paying him 2.3 mil to sit this season. That doesn't sit well with me when we have Boone and others who are currently healthy looking for a contract extention.Hunter was out for his injury.

I'm sure the team felt he was going to get more on in free agency than what they are paying him now.

Securing Dorsey also mean we're likely set up front defensively for the next few years and gives the team flexibility to line up and have a replacement ready for his spot after 2016.

Regarding Boone if he showed up to camp the team would've likely have gotten something done for him (assuming the report he turned down top 12 guard money is off).
