Does Wash deserve any credit for the turn around?

Probably too soon to call the current four-game win streak a "turn around", but it certainly is a welcome change following the 2-8 stretch out of the break. Wash was taking a lot of criticism from fans only a few days ago, so I wonder whether those same fans think that he deserves any credit now.

Personally, I think that he, along with the rest of his coaches, all of the players, and the front office are all competitors trying to win, so, as a fan, I appreciate their efforts. Lot easier to lose than it is to win, since the other team is also competing.

Washington gets a boat load of credit from me for being the best players manager in baseball, and that in today's game is the most important aspect to managing a big league club.

Wash has had just two of those closed door meetings and you have to be impressed with the results. Most managers have a closed door every other week and they get lost in meaning.

If they can pull this off the next two months, then you can give him AL MotY.

If you blame him for the offensive struggles/losses, then you definitely have to credit him for a turn around if they continue to win. I think it's highly likely they will, after the A's series we don't play a winning team until September.

Interesting points. In addition to his reputation as a players' manager, I thought it was also interesting to hear Busby (?, I think that's right) on the broadcast talk about how skilled Wash also is an instructor ... something about the "best in baseball that he'd ever been around".

I didn't realize that team meetings are that common. Surely it's only the struggling teams that have them. I could see how if those talks become too frequent they might contribute to the "need" for them. Hopefully Wash won't hold a third team meeting any time too soon.

He certainly deserves credit for holding the players accountable for their poor play and the players deserve credit for playing at a higher level. Let's hope this continues throughout the rest of the season. Need to take at least 2 games vs Oakland

Sure I give him credit for the net results from the recent meeting and probably the one earlier this season. I also give him credit for being a players manager. I do not believe that necessarily means that Wash is now some great manager. I am sure almost every manager in baseball sees the need to call meetings of this type at some point during almost every season. I could argue the most recent meeting should have been done before the start of the second half of the season but why bother. I have multiple reasons for wishing that Wash was removed as manager and his many supporters have their reasons for wanting him to stay. It looks to me that the FO is currently firmly in the keep Wash camp. Good for them they are the experts and ultimately responsible. It does not mean that I am wrong about my opinion on the value of Wash or that I am a shitty fan/person because I want him replaced. Nothing I say about Wash or my wishing he was gone have any bearing on what happens to him or the team. JD, Noland and Wash do not look at this website to calibrate their actions. This website is for fans of the team and the fact that we have such a wide range of opinions means this is a healthy place for venting and exchanging ideas about what is happening with the Rangers.

That all seems reasonable to me. While it is clearly any fan's right to root for a manager to get fired, I just think that it's important to think about the current manager's already demonstrated ability to effectively manage the team and to think about the alternatives. For example, who do you think would be better? That's a rhetorical question, of course, but one that the FO ought to seriously consider before replacing Wash. Personally, I suspect that both how qualified and who better qualified are issues that the FO has thought long and hard about, though much more the first than the second of those issues.

It's a team effort and everyone contributes one way or another or not. Lately can't be questioned. They are all deserving.

The best players manager in baseball doesn't make him a great manager. I do think the results he gets from each and every player is because he's more than just loyal, he's straight with them. Washington has their respect from all 25 like few others that manage today. With the $$ in baseball salaries, that is so huge and why he's so well regarded among players that have been around him. I find that most refreshing....being honest and being yourself. Again, I'm not a fan and scream at him as much as most with his line-ups and in game decisions. I just think he deserves his just due's. I remember the history of this team and Washington has sure held up his end towards the success.

Of course he does. But everybody in that locker room deserves credit as well because this team looks different and have responded great since that meeting.

Here is a piece that discusses Wash's strengths and weaknesses and what he's meant to the team. I think it's pretty balanced.

Ron Washington was club's greatest manager before earning most wins - ESPN Dallas

Excerpt:
"General manager Jon Daniels knew he wasn’t getting a shrewd statistician who would play the percentages. He knew he wasn’t getting someone who would make all the right moves.

Daniels hired someone who could teach a young team and an organization about how to win games and create a culture in which teammates relied on one another. He tabbed Washington because he saw in him a terrific motivator and someone who would, no matter how hard it might become, demand that pitching and defense become the hallmark of a contending team, instead of relying too much on a hard-hitting offense."

Boy that hits the nail on the head.

Last night the 3rd base camera caught Washington writing a note then wristing the pen to the surface in disgust after Murphy's error that followed AB's error to start the 8th.

Gotta say....Washington's closed door meetings get results. These players sure seem to bust their behinds for the man. Long ago I came to understand that to be a good sign of a very good big league manager.

We're about to find out just how much wash can get out of his team with nelly out of the lineup.

Not really fair to expect a manager to "get better" because one his best players is out. Like you say, though, we shall see. I'm not selling Wash and the team short.

All I'm saying is if they put it together now then the guy deserves a lot of credit.

:agree: he doesn't have a talented roster to bail him out
It doesn't stop there. We saw that insane move he made last night putting Murphy in right field. Cost a run immediately in the first inning. Later Murphy made another little league error. Bad decisio and bad play that will not support a winning team.:lame::noidea::L
