Not a bad deal....fwiw, he pitched a lot better in the 2nd half of 2013 (3.52 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, .636 OPSA) and somewhat looked like the Haren of old, so there's some upside.

Wasn't bad for the Nats last year and this is an upgrade in the back end of their rotation.

Unfortunately, after 7 consecutive seasons with 33+ starts and 215+ IP, he made 30 starts in each of his last two seasons (and a relief appearance in 2013). Both years, he failed to make it past 180 IP. Haren was an absolute workhorse for years. His K/BB stats still look good, but he's been getting hit hard over the last two years (opposing batters hit .272/.309/.459, HR/9 was around 1.5).

Haren's peripherals were much better in the 2nd half. Hopefully it's a sign he'll bounce back.

And speaking of guys who bounced back in 2nd half, did no one give any offers to Javier Vazquez after the 2011 season? Not only did he turn it around big time, but his velocity improved over the course of the season.

He ended up retiring.

1 year deal, good value for a 4 or 5 pitcher that could pitch like a 2 for a few games at least. Nice gamble.

I would imagine the Dodgers rotation would be:

Kershaw
Greinke
Ryu
Billingsley
Haren and or Beckett

I think Nolasco, Volquez and Capuano are all free agents in 2014.

Correct and Nolasco has been getting offers elsewhere, just waiting for a long-term deal. Heard Minnesota wants to add both him and Garza.

Good signing for the Dodgers

Just looking at this looks to be a nice deal for the dodgers who really need a couple of upgrades in the pitching rotation. The Dodgers simply got caught with no pants on in the playoffs and have to plug that hole if they are to advance

Great deal for the dodgers that they only had to sign him for one year. Ive never been a huge haren fan because I dont think hes that good but hes worth a one year gamble at ten mil. Most pitchers would be. I like the josh johnson signing better though. He has the potential to bounce back and be elite whereas haren has the potential to get double digit victories with a 3.5 to 3.8 ERA.

Haren, 33, 3.8 era, if he gets that low after the last 2 years of 4.4 and double digit wins at 10 mil is a good deal?

vargas, 30-33, 4.0 era, double digit wins at 8 mil is what again?

2 mil difference is about correct to make them both good deals, although one is not 33 til the last year of his deal. Both are very good deals, great, no but good with a chance at upside with some luck.
