I do wanna throw this in though.....

If there is a guy we are over paying and need to release...... It's Carr not Ware

Wrong as usual. I'm surprised you don't want to give Carter a huge raise and under contract for 5 years. Wow, just wow. Love those dumbass predictions and thoughts of yours. And you claim football knowledge. All I can do is laugh at your predictions. I'm beginning to wonder if you have down syndrome.

$7.3M if we cut him pre 6/1. If we cut him post 6/1 we save over $12M, but push some cap hit into 2015.

I'd rather save $7.3 this year and not push $5 million onto next year's cap. This is the deepest draft in a long time, I think the Cowboys could land a starting DT in the 1st or 2nd round, and a contributor in the 4th or 5th. I wouldn't be surprised if the Cowboys sign Spencer to a one year deal at a meet in the middle rate, which might be good for both sides. Crawford coming back at DE, draft a Safety early as well, and with Rod taking over at DC, this D could be much improved IMO

I get rid of Ware, Spencer and Hatcher right now if you are serious about rebuilding the defense.

That may be what happens and I can support the direction. I don't think that is what will happen knowing jerry and is opinion of the state of this team. Thus the rub I suppose.

There are definitely several reasons why the salary cap is a good thing but this is an example of when it sucks. Ware will go down as an ALL TIME Cowboy and he should never leave. Just isn't right to see Ware on the field with a Browns jersey or any other jersey on.

Very similar to letting Dawkins go near the end for Philly. I wish there was a way to keep a legitimate aging star on your team forever.

if we read into what JG has said. Him talking about Ware being young, means to me they plan on redoing his contract & he is staying. Unless an injury stops it between now & them changing his contract.

Added to the comments from Jerry about not being able to ''fathom'' a Cowboys D without Ware, I think they are going to rework his deal too. I think the spike in the salary cap, and the rumor of a similar jump next year, has put Jerry in the mindset that if he were to rework everyone(except Austin), he might be able to keep Ware by extending him, Spencer to a one year deal, and resign or tag Hatcher.

Sure. Lets prolong the rebuilding and continue to suck for another 5 years or so. Wow, I just can't believe how damn stupid some of you Cowboy fans are. Unbelievable. Now I suppose someone will start a thread if we keep all 3 of them that we have a chance to go to the playoffs. Some of you will never know or understand how putrid the state of the Cowboys is right now till its too late.

You might want to try reading what I said. I was talking about Jerry's mindset on trying to win now. I've posted at least 20 times I would purge the roster this year and clean up the cap

I'm not sure of your point, so please expand. If we resign all 3 of them (we can't, or at least shouldn't with their age/injury issues and our cap problem) and all 3 are healthy and play to their capabilities we ABSOLUTELY have a chance to go to the playoffs. Perhaps your point is who cares about "just making" the playoffs because it would be dumb to resign them long term and just making the playoffs isn't a big deal. But, we have a chance to make the playoffs no matter what happens. If all 3 of those guys are resigned and healthy we have a chance to not only make the playoffs, but to win some games in the playoffs as well. The fact that we can't or shouldn't resign them, or that they may not be healthy enough to be the players they were and help us are of course different discussions.

I would go one step past that. We are not in a position to keep all three, but if we did, and Ware, Spencer and Hatcher stayed healthy, along with Lee, Romo, Dez, Smith, etc, and we added say Dix and Donald in the first two rounds, an OL later.... That team, HEALTHY would have a shot at the Super Bowl. First, THAT team would go 12-4 in the division we play in. All four teams in the West will be strong, the winner may be lucky to go 11-5. We could get a first round bye and a 2nd round home game. If all those guys were here and healthy, we match up with ANYONE

Jerrah seems to be negotiating through the media. A smart gm would make up their mind and give an ultimatum.

I tend to agree. I don't think any of his comments on Ware are indicative of the teams plan on what to do with him. Jerry is so full of shit that you never know what to believe and I'm not even sure he does. I think he is just trying to get Ware to agree to less money which would be the best case for the team and GM Jerry...just don't know if it is going to happen...

You pretty much hit the nail on the head with both points. I just happen to respectfully disagree. I don't believe we go anywhere with any of those guys even if we keep them or are able to keep them. You know how I feel about Ware, so I won't go there except he is not a good fit in the 4-3 as I have said all along and can't cover RB's coming out of the backfield in the 3-4. I said a few weeks ago I would keep Carr, Claiborne, Selvy, Crawford and Church. I clean house and get rid of everyone else including Sean Lee. What a horrible contract we will get from him. Already has missed a half season each of the last 2 years. Signs a 55 million contract to play half a season, wow. As much as I love everything about Lee, that contract will kill us. Total youth movement for me with new hungry blood. But then again, Jerry is still running the show and all of our banter, predictions, arguments, etc., is pretty much meaningless.
Except for kicker and special teams, we are one hurting unit from top to bottom right now with no way out thanks to Jerry. We will not win another Super Bowl with Jerry as the owner.

I suppose there may be a slight chance we could barely make the playoffs if everything went perfectly we and stayed healthy, but I'm spoiled Cowboy fan from the 70's. For me its super bowl, NFC championship at the very least, or bust. But to think even if all that happened and your scenario played out, do you really think we can play with Seattle, S.F. New Orleans, Carolina, Chicago, or a health Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay, hell no.

My take on Demarcus Ware and the future

Sorry, I have not read the rest of this thread, so if what I am saying has been said...whatever.

In my opinion, Ware needs to be moved into a John Abraham role, and brought in strictly on obvious passing downs. With this change in role Ware will need to take a corresponding pay cut. I'm not a capologist and don't know the going rate for a pass rush specialist, but again I think John Abraham is a good starting point. Ware's only value at this point is rushing the passer, he hasn't been good against the run for a few years now. I think Dallas can squeeze a couple more effective seasons out of Ware if a move like this is made. But under no circumstances should the Cowboys pay this guy $12.6 million to suck against the run and get hurt so he can't effectively rush the passer. Ware is no longer an every down player and Dallas can not afford to pay him as such.

I am now, and have always been a HUGE Demarcus Ware fan. The guy plays the game right, and by all accounts is a good human being. I want to see him retire a Cowboy - hopefully with a championship. But if he and Dallas can not work out a more tenable agreement for the team, he needs to go.

I beg to respectfully differ. If the guy was capable of producing as a pass rusher I might agree with you. He can't pass rush in a 4-3 and he can't cover linebackers in a 3-4. He's now used up, non effective, injury prone the past few seasons, over paid and his over priced salary is killing us from moving on and plugging hole that need to be filled.

Have you looked at our schedule for next year? Based on the situation we are in now, and I mean right now before the draft, etc., I can see how we can win more than 7 games next year.

You can't go off the schedule BJJ. Look at Washington for example. Last year at this time, Redskins fans were talking up RG3 as the greatest thing since popcorn. And they end up with the 2nd overall pick...not that they get to use it lol.

They were talking him up, not any of us. Tough road ahead. We play the NFC west next year and have New Orleans coming to town and play the bears again. With our current state of affairs, I can see us losing all 6 of those games.

Come on now, I can make the case we could win five out of those 6. N.O. in Dallas? We could beat them. Chicago anywhere, we can play with that bunch. NFC West, Arizona and the Rams scare ya? Really? SF and Seattle, yeah, they're more talented, but if we played them at home, we could beat either of them. Besides, if we play the West, so does Wash, Philly and the NYG. What will decide our fate will be our record against the NFC East.
