Keep Carr and get rid of Ware for what left we can get for him. We can't rebuild the defense with his hurtful contract and lame ass production.

knew it was about time for Troll hour

with the overblown cap situation we are in it would be difficult even releasing him to do anything to rebuild this defense. according to the latest numbers we are approximately 25M over the projected 2014 salary cap of 126.3M and releasing Ware only clears approximately 7.3M of that 25M overage.

If I'm not mistaken ... he is a 16 million number this year .....

12+ is base salary though .....

Thats the 12 you save

I actually could go either way here but I tend to think I'd try to keep Ware.
I'd like to see him work with the team and take a modest pay cut with incentives for number of snaps played and sack total

He has said he would restructure but wont take a pay cut. That is how it is with NFL players. Have a great year or two......PAY ME!! Have a down year or two compared to prior seasons for whatever reason......hell no I am not taking a pay cut

Sadly, you may be right.
I hope Dallas applies that pressure through the media.

I don't see jerry doing it. Restructure is without question and Ware will play in Dallas for a minimum of one more season

He is getting surgery on his elbow on the 18th. ..I'm assuming there is a reason why he waited till now.

It really is a tough call ...what tips it for me is his workman attitude. He is a positive force guy that goes well beyond his physical abilities.

Really a tough call. If healthy he will put up good numbers. I still think he would be better in a 3-4. I think Jerrah will try to get him to take a pay cut and then maybe reconstruct as he still thinks the team is a contender. If Ware does not rebound he probably will be gone. If he does not rebound qbs will have all day to throw and we all know what that means.

Great post....I tend to think that way about team guys as well in most cases

...Trading or cutting him pre-6/1 has the same impact on us so we save nothing. But, I thought I remembered that if you trade him post 6/1 all of the dead money accelerates into the current year whereas with a post 6/1 cut only the current year hit would be in 2013 with the rest delayed to 2014.

Looking at it from another teams point of view, why trade for a guy that has 4 years left averaging like $13.5M per year? Why would you give anything up for that? Why not wait until he is cut and offer a smaller contract? However, the one thing that may be attractive is that with no guaranteed money left they can cut him. So if they trade for him and his huge contract and don't think he was worth it or healthy after the first year, they can cut him use his money elsewhere...
You are correct. If he's traded before June 1st or he becomes a pre-June 1st cut he'll count as $8,571,500 towards the cap. If he's listed as a post-June 1st cut or he's traded after that date he'll count as $3,753,750 towards the 2014 cap, (includes additional work-out bonus), and $5,317,750 towards 2015.

and wouldn't Dallas counter with wanting a 4th or 5th before taking a 7th and pointing out Ware will be cut and said team would have to deal with the other 30 teams for his services? That works both ways.

I don't think a team out there would take a flyer on Ware through a trade and take on that cap hit
Cap hits are not passed on. All of Ware's cap hit will be absorbed by the Cowboys. Any trading team would acquire the terms and conditions of Ware's current non-guaranteed contract.

The Cowboys will probably try to negotiate with Austin and Carr before they get to Ware. If they can't make progress with either of those 2 their room for manouevre with Ware will be limited.

100% agree. It seems to me, coming off an injury, that redoing his contract with a nice signing bonus, but a reduced value, with built in incentives would be fair both ways

Thanks fastforward,

I didn't mean to say the cowboys cap hit for the guaranteed money as much as the cap it of Wares yearly salary to end of term the new team would take on through trade

on a singular basis. I would ok with cutting Ware. Problem is we have no DTs. Spencer is leaving. I doubt we let Spencer & Ware leave in the same year. Ware already said he isn't taking a pay cut & no reason not to believe him. He holds all the cards there. I do think Ware will be given his money up front & work on the min. salary for the year, which will screw us in the near future but help this year. it wouldn't hurt my feelings to cut him, I just don't see Jerry doing this.

$7.3M if we cut him pre 6/1. If we cut him post 6/1 we save over $12M, but push some cap hit into 2015.

I guess I misread the title. I said what Jerrah probably would do. I would tell Ware that he can take a pay cut or play somewhere else. Ware has had a bad neck for several seasons. Ware has not done much over the past 20 games. 8 sacks over the past 20 games and 4 of them came in a two game stretch. Ware has almost been invisible because of injuries.

Jerry? Probably give Ware a raise...
