had my men's and mixed doubles tri-level sectionals this weekend in VA Beach

my teams always seem to be outclassed when we go to these tournaments, but a lot of teams just sandbag their lines like crazy...but also, we have some guys playing at some levels who should not be at that level.

I went 1-2 over the weekend, losing both men's matches and winning a mixed doubles match on Monday. Would have liked one more W to make it a .500 record.

What type of a serve was it? Spin, kick?

How come you don't post in any of the threads about the Majors?

Slice more like it. Spin just puts pressure on the return but is straightforward, and kick is just plain high.

he had spin on it. He was a fan of hitting his serves into the netting along the side of the courts. It was a pain in the ass.

and I do sometimes, but I don't have cable so I don't get to watch all that much live tennis.

That reminds me of a serve my friend had. He called it the [insert his last name] Special.

Same here. It was called the "Tuna" serve because you would end up tangled in the net like a Tuna.

You have good form there at least.
he had me stretched out, that's for sure.

I was able to pick off most of his wide serves, but I should have moved up in the box and attacked them before the net became a problem.

Try to stand at the baseline while receiving unless he is serving real fast. That adds intimidation factor and puts pressure on his serve. Is he much taller than you?

the baseline or the service line? Standing on the baseline is the norm for me.

probably a little taller. I see this guy maybe once a year at districts or sectionals. He plays in DC.

Can you play him more often, in non-tourneys? So you can get a feel for his game?

Not likely. And I have a pretty good feel for it already. He's a bit of a junk baller. I'll hopefully get him next time.

Often times it’s guys that you don’t get a chance to hit with much to get a better feel for their game that beat you. And of course they don’t like serving to you so you are receiving other than when the actual match is going on. So you don’t get a feel for their serve

I have no idea what this even means.

I don't give a shit who I am serving to when I am warming up, but it doesn't take long for someone to get a feel for their opponent's serve.

Like I said, this guy was a junk baller. He moved around on the baseline to get different angles with his serve, but it wasn't anything great, he just took advantage of the fence or the net along the side of the court.
