Max Scherzer will be the game 1 starter, followed by Justin Verlander, Anibal Sanchez and Doug Fister.

I read something today about the Tigers starting pitchers that really blew my mind. Here are some ridiculous stats:

#3 in strikeouts

#2 in strikeout rate

#2 in xFIP

#9 in WAR

These are where they rank for 2013 -- This is where they rank in the HISTORY OF BASEBALL. Pretty damn impressive. I guess when ur #3 starter won the ERA title this year, you have a pretty good rotation.

The Tigers had 108 Quality Starts (1st) - which is pretty impressive, even for a random statistic.

While I was researching, I noticed Boston had 24 blown saves (5th worst). Egad!

Koji only had one of em though, right? Detroit and Boston both saw their bullpens change quite a bit as the season progressed, for the better. Hey MikeD, I thought the Tigers starters set the record for most K? Or was that for a staff as a whole?

I think Detroit set the record as a whole, but were #2 all time for K's for just the starting pitchers. At least that is how I read the article.

I get a million articles regarding detroit sports teams from this iPhone app my brother had me download. This was one of the random articles today talking about how Detroit ranked all time as a starting rotation.

Yeah -- I've never been a huge fan of quality starts, just for the simple fact the bare minimum of 6 IP and 3 ER leaves you with a 4.50 ERA and IMO, that isn't quality.

It does show you that the Tigers starters give the team a great chance to win whenever any of them step on the mound. 108 is very impressive. I wonder what the record is for QS in a season.

And Koji Uehara is flat out nasty. Watching him pitch in the last series against the Tigers -- he is the most impressive closer I saw in the AL.

It's so much the numbers, but by going 6+ innings they kept the BP fresh.
