Closer gives up 5 runs in the 9th inning of Game 2. Starter gives up 4 runs before getting an out in the 1st inning of Game 3. Those two innings may well have knocked the Tigers out of the playoffs. We'll see. Pretty much gotta take 3 of 4 from Cleveland now. Good luck.

Tigers did the white flag yesterday and today. IMO.

Watched the Orioles today....superior bullpen. With the homerun power they have, they could be a team to fear in a short series, if their starters give them anything at all.

As for Detroit....I fear another year of the same stuff. They will try and extend JD and paint themselves into another financial corner. No real plan...just throw out the money and roll the dice.

Gotta win the series against Cleveland.

Which means beat up Kluber, or win the last three.

Buck Farmer has a row to hoe.

Regardless of what happens to the Tigers this year, next year is looking bright. We should have a great rotation and our relief pitching should be better.

What on earth makes you think the relief pitching will be better? Avila's brilliant track record with signings or the stripped bare farm system?

I do have some optimism for the rotation.

I like the improvements Rondon has made, I think Rodriguez has another year left in his arm and they have a rookie Jiminez that's ready to come up next year ... that and I am a terrible optimist!!

Be great if this one gets a few innings in and it starts to rain. Id be happy to have Farmer burned again at the cost of Kluber.

Not a bad idea. Except Tigers used several possible starters in relief yesterday. (Pelfrey, Sanchez, Zimmermann) So if they schedule a DH for Tuesday, you'd either have to use one of them on short rest...and none of the three were sharp Sunday.....or use your bullpen. Did they leave anyone in Toledo that could start?

When you are forced to put Buck Farmer into your rotation....you have problems. I know there are injury concerns...but it is just hard to see the name "Buck Farmer" in front of names like Zimmermann and Sanchez. (Pelfrey...that I can accept). Verlander, Fulmer, Norris, and Boyd. And I was expecting to wake up this morning to read that Boyd's awful start Sunday was due to his right ulna having changed into cartilage and his career was over. And I admit I have worried every start Fulmer has made this month. Ausmus and Avila don't give a crap about his arm or future. If the team misses the post-season...those two might be selling use cars in San Diego next year.

Boyd should be pretty fresh. Lol

They could have the DH on Wed or Thursday. I think. Not exactly sure how that shakes out. Home team gets to determine time. Not sure about the date.

It's definitely not over.

As annoying as their inability to pull ahead as been, Id imagine Orioles, Mariners, Astros and even Blue Jays fans have been in about the same boat.

It's not like there is a clear cut best team in the AL or anything. Whoever scrapes in as the second WC has about as good of a chance as anyone. (About, that's being very ballpark.)

Like I said on April 4 ... 86 wins.

Cleveland is still playing for home field, so I don't see any intentional lay-down by them this series.

Tigers would need to go 5-1 over the last 6 games to have a chance. The way they are playing right now....????

I saw this team as an 85-86 win team at the start of the season. I also thought that would be enough to keep them in contention in the Central AND for a Wild Card. Not a crappy team...just too many flaws to overcome.

Need to win this series.

No room for error at this point.

(And we root for Toronto to sweep.)

I know every team goes through injuries every season and injury should be no excuse but it has been and extraordinary injury parade for the Tigers this season. Certainly part of the blame can be put on the crappy bench and depletion of the minor league system. Long periods of time without JD and Mabin and Nick C and Zimmermann is a lot to overcome. If they come up short of a wild-card spot this is what a lot of it can be attributed to. Being in the race with 6 games left in the season I think bodes well for this team.
There certainly needs to be additions but I don't believe there needs to be a huge overhaul.
