you will laugh at me.. but drew verhagen could very easily turn out to be a closer down the road... the kid has 97 mph and a great breaking ball... he has 3 usable pitches.. not 1 or 2.. and he fits the bill of the average closer as a failed starter..

and then it went all to hell in a hand-basket for him
that happened because the hitters saw him a 3rd time and made adjustments... hitters don't see relievers 3 times in one game.

when buck farmer is on... his stuff is 1000x better than al alburquerque. not a single mlb scout would disagree.

that'll happen to a SP.... a lot, if he actually has a career as a SP.... he won't

damn well shouldn't

That is why I am saying move him to the pen... If Buck Farmer is in the Tigers rotation next year.. Al Avila should be fired.

pretty sure Al Avila will get the "Matty Stafford treatment"... he'll be given a break for quite awhile..

i am not arguing that buck farmer is a future ace.. i am saying he has better stuff thancal alburquerque... and could easily pitch to a 3.5 era out of the pen without surprising anyone.

yes, I do... but you do enjoy cramming it down others when you're correct..... so ......

enjoy...
now can we all agree on one thing... the way the tigers have built their bullpen the last 10 yrs didn't work... and they need to try something new?

I've seen glimpses from him but he's still young and needs one damn role only. SP or RP... period.. He ain't going to be a solid SP... ever.... so move him to the BP.. permanently.. These kids cannot be successful bouncing back and forth from SP to RP to SP...etc... Drew Smyly was the exception, imo.

i am just sick of seeing them spend big money on someone else's cast off... or trade away talent that could probably do the same thing...

have you thought about this? the rangers allowed their closer to leave (nathan) and replaced him in house (with soria)... then traded soria to the tigers and replaced him in house with a no name guy that is now at 2.69 era.. and cost them 500k this year... they are going to possibly go to the playoffs...

drew smyly's sample size as a starter is still small.. his future is most likely the pen as well.

you know you do, so admit...

I agree with quite a bit you state, Vice, but it's doesn't always mean I'm going to agree with your opinion.
I do know one thing for sure, your knowledge in MLB is above mine. I like to learn from others. When they go about it properly.

as am I... we agree here.. but I'm not highly confident we honestly have the arms for the pen, right at this moment.
