That is because it goes back to 2001.. that is pre free agent spending.. when they sucked ass but still kept using in house fecal matter.

This article is pretty stupid if you read it... they admit they will have 45 mil to spend if the Tigers just keep the payroll where it was.. if you don't think 45 mil is enough to get 2 above average starters... you are nuts.
I don't think I'm nuts but the jury still may be out on that. I read that article to mean that the Tigers had 35 million dollars to fill their 24 man roster after they had paid the five players they owed 110 million dollars -. So that ment they had 35 million dollars to pay 19 players? Plus they owed on other contracts.

Thursday afternoon
Kinsler
Collins
Miggy
VMart
JD
Nick
Avila
Iggy
Gose
Wolf on the hill. ..
I would like to see better protection behind Miggy. He is hitting
370 and our best chance for some offense. He is hot as hell right now and I don't think it is out of the realm of possibility that he could make a run at 400. He is a magic man

miggy -28 mil
kinsler - 14 mil
castellanos 550 k
iglesias - arb estimate (2.5 mil)
mccann - 525k
collins/moya - 500k
gose - 525k
JD Martinez - arb estimate (8 mil)
vmart - 18 mil

verlander 28 mil
sanchez 17 mil
norris 515k
free agent ?
free agent?

holiday - 550k
collins/moya - 500k
romine - 1.2 mil

hardy 525k
wilson 525k

Alburquerque 1.25mil
knudsen - 500k
verhaagen - 500k
farmer - 525k
boyd - 525k
rondon - 525k

That adds up to about 126 mil in payroll... before adding 2 starters... there are NO free agents worth big contracts for bullpen roles.... if payroll stays the same as it was to open the year... lets call it 175 mil.... they have just under 50 mil to spend...

There is no way he can get to 400... he is .30 points away.. he would have to hit well over .500 for the last 36 games to even be close.

Even with paying the 6 mil of prince fielders contact.. they still should have about 45 mil to spend. I am being VERY generous in the 8 mil estimated salary for JD. Iglesias isn't getting more than around 3 mil.... Tigers will have plenty of money to spend...

Gibby was talking this afternoon about Miggy getting to 400 even had it figured out. It's just a fun thing to talk about you don't have to be so cereal. Hahaha

You didn't read this right burf... they have 110 mil in 5 players... yes.. but the rest of the projected team's salary is only about 16 mil.. because everyone outside of JD and Iglesias are on minimum pre arb deals or close to it... 110 mil +35 mil = 145 mil.. their opening day payroll this year was about 175 mil...

Gibby is god awful as an announcer.. i take rod any day over him... if miggy gets to .400.. they should just give him his plaque for the HOF with the batting title.. he would have hit about .580 in the last 60 games of the season to pull it off.

The article says they will have 135 million dollers committed in salaries and other commitments with 15 roster spots left to fill. That is the second paragraph in the article sorry I cannot copy that to this post. I am NOT arguing with you but that's what it says.

I just posted their salary commitments.. 126 mil + 6 mil to texas for prince fielder... that is for 23 roster spots.. with 2 spots to fill. Mlive is has idiotic journalists... that is what I am trying to tell you... add up the salaries yourself if you like.. but the numbers I posted CLEARLY shows Mlives numbers are way off...

15 roster spots that are going to be filled will mostly be filled by pre arm guys like Mccann, Hardy, Farmer, Collins, Moya... ect... they cost about 500k a piece... 500k x 15 guys = about 7.5 million... so once again... even WITH their inflated numbers... they would still have about 30 mil to spend on 2 guys... based on the 175 mil opening day payroll.... Don't take mlive journalists to serious.. they can't even spell check let alone add up salaries correctly.

What a joke... hit a triple with 1 out.. can't get him home... Brad lets Avila and his .178 hit instead of pinch hitting... what a fucking moron. What are you saving the bench for Brad? Its the 8th inning and your losing by a run....

Avila is atrocious. I'd rather see the pitchers bat when he's playing, and DH for the catcher spot.

He wasn't alone today, though. Completely feeble hitting.

I want to see the Tigers finish in the bottom 10 in the league because it best sets them up for the future... but god is it hard to watch that clown Ausmus manage... I am willing to bet his decisions alone have led to the Tigers losing AT LEAST 10 games this year... Leyland managing this team and they would be contending for a division title right now.

I'm going to go ahead and put money down right now that the Tigers sign some combination of two of the following free agent starters:

Gallardo
Latos
Zimmermann
Grienke
Price
Kazmir
samardzija
bret anderson
bucholtz
cueto
leake
estrada

My guess is Price is going to be to much of a long term investment.. but a guy like Grienke might be right in their wheelhouse... I'm betting on them signing Latos or Anderson as a the second guy or going out and making a trade for someone in their late 20's that has started before and had success... like Cashner.

I think the only way they go after zimmermann would be if they get a top 10 pick because he almost certainly would cost them their 1st rounder if they are not in the top 10... but if they do end up in the bottom 10 in the league... I could see them making a serious run at him.. he won't cost nearly as much as a cueto or price will.. and is still a nice front of the rotation pitcher that is fairly young.

Just a heads up... Tigers may have found another diamond in the rough in the late rounds. Dominic Ficociello is turning into a flat out stud hitter in AA Erie. He plays first base and obviously is blocked there with miggy being around.. but its good to know the Tigers may actually have a legit 1st baseman in the upper minors if needed for next year. He is a switch hitter too. Very interesting kid to watch. He is really coming on late in the season after being called up from Lakeland.

Brad still pushing vmart out in the clean up spot when JD is obviously the better choice to anyone with a brain...
