I hope Price stays a Tiger til at least the end of the season, he's the most consistent pitcher we have now and when he pitches he wins

The Tigers will have to win more often then when Price pitches or he won't be here at the end of the season or the end of this month.... would be nice to see them play as well when Sanchez and Verlander pitch

tough loss 2nite to watch..

anybody honestly believe this BP can turn it around and perform like they're expected to ?

it would be an absolute shame to waste keeping trade pieces in hopes that even a WC spot could be had.

want proof.

look at the last 4 post seasons even the WS against frisco

That's a good point.

4 straight Central titles and nothing to show for it except getting swept in the 2012 Series.

For all the money they've spent--they've never won the WS.

Clutch win tonight. Clutch homer by Kinsler.

They need to win tomorrow, and then ride Price and Sanchy to a sweep.

At this point they are better off not winning another game this year... getting a high draft pick... trading cespedes (and hopefully resigning him later) trading price for a young MLB ready starter and a prospect or two, trading rajai and avila for what ever can be had, and soria too... if they can add some mid level prospects to the farm and at least 1 major league ready starter... they set the table to be active in free agency in the winter.... and they will have boat loads of cash to spend.

Don't know about "boatloads" of cash. They likely lose Price ($19.75 mill) and Cespedes (about $10 mill). Nathan ($10 mill) also comes off the books. They have SOME money to spend if they plan to stay at or near $180 million for the team. But not "boatloads". They are still carrying some very hefty contracts:

Verlander = $28 mill/4 additional years commitment
Cabrera = $30 mill/8 additional years commitment
V-mart = $17 mill/3 additional years commitment
Sanchez = $16 mill
Kinsler = $17 mill

Plus J. D. Martinez (All-Star) is arbitration eligible in 2016 and 2017. What do you think he'll command if he tops 40 HR? Iglesias (All-Star) is also arbitration eligible. There's a pretty big payroll bump coming just to keep these two.

Trailing 5-1. Now leading 7-5.

They gotta win tonight, and then Price and Sanchy gotta take care of biz.

Get the sweep, and we'll see where we are.

Tigers are subtracting

20 mil (rounded up) - price
10 mil cespedes
10 mil nathan
7 mil soria
6 mil simon
5 mil davis
5 mil avila
2 mil al al (arb2)
1 mil gorzelany
1 mil joba
500k romine (arb 1)

67.5 mil coming off the books howie...

None of these free agents will be back outside of the arb eligible al al or romine... maybe cespedes... estimated arb raises are around 12-15 mil.. so basically the Tigers have 52-55 mil to spend... that is a boat load.

Tigers will go after 2 starters, LF, and 2 or 3 relievers... guys like avila, davis, gorzelany, joba, will be replaced in house... so they have 52-55 mil to spend on 4 or 5 guys.... 2 starters ( 15 mil x 2) LF (15 mil) closer (10 mil) still leaves 12 mil for 2 relievers... Tigers are looking good.. and that is before any trade that could add cheap young talent.

Tigers could easily 2 of any of these guys

Brett Anderson (28)
Mark Buehrle (37)
A.J. Burnett (39)
Johnny Cueto (30)
Ross Detwiler (30)
Marco Estrada (32)
Doug Fister (32)
Yovani Gallardo (30)
Zack Greinke (32) – can opt out of remaining three years/$71MM
Hisashi Iwakuma (35)
Scott Kazmir (32)
Mat Latos (28)
Mike Leake (28)
Tim Lincecum (32)
David Price (30)
Jeff Samardzija (31)
Jordan Zimmermann (30)

How would Zimmermann - Samardzija - Verlander - Sanchez - (5th starter from trade of Price at deadline) look next year?
Or Maybe Cueto - Gallardo - Verlander - Sanchez - (5th starter from trade of price at deadline)

Or Even ( Greinke - Verlander - Sanchez - Latos - Fister )??

Tigers are actually in a better position than people think.
