I think Avila calls a better game while Holaday has a better stick (for now). Neither look like they can throw anyone out on a regular basis. Ausmus will straighten that position out, one way or another.

The only way we score with the bases loaded is with a freakin base on balls. Gotta do a better job with RISP especially because of that shaky pen...(that has looked very good today).

Late last season Austin swings at all those outside pitches. It is very nice to see. Hope it is a trend starter.

Part of the 12th place ranking is because the Tigers have played the fewest games in the league. They rank a few places higher in runs-per-game.

That said, yeah, the BA with RISP can't be too good, and they aren't hitting home runs either. Of the 5 runs yesterday, two scored on sac flies and one on a bases loaded walk. Holaday got the only knock with RISP all day.

Still, a win is a win is a win. Starting pitching will take this team a long way.

Point taken, but let's worry about winning the AL Central and consider the Cardinals and Dodgers when the time comes. The Royals are sporting a 3.20 team ERA (to 3.76 for Detroit) and a much better bullpen. Despite their hitting woes (4.04 runs per game to 4.52 for the Tigers), I see them hanging close until late September. I'm sure hoping DD doesn't stand pat at the trade deadline.

Sure the BP has under performed, understatement of the year, but a real big loss, Rondon wasn't expected and they haven't replaced Smyly in the pen....some of the other guys a work in progress. .... I would like to see Robbie Ray be ready for the bigs and move Smyly back to the BP.......still early and we got a winning record....

They signed Hanrahan. You die hards see this helping or not. I am at the mercy of major network games and road trips to Chi town, KC and Minny to watch. You guys keep me more informed than reading most media outlets.
