Homework for these guys tonight will be to look up the definition of "support" in the hockey directory.

Decent pressure with the extra skater out there. Maybe we should play the whole game with an empty net?

A few of these guys will be surprised when they look in the mirror in the locker room after the game to find that their heads can make 180 degree rotations like some other animals.

I'm glad we have two days off before game two. Serious adjustments need to be made.

Pathetic team effort after the 1st period.

Adjustments won't help if we are unwilling to get the puck off their sticks with much more immediacy. We had our pockets picked that entire 3rd period. Atrocious!

I don't think there is another team in the league with more tendency to hold the puck too long, having the unsurity to make a quick decision than the Wings. And, if they don't address that, but quick, this one is history.

For some reason, the Hawks have had trouble starting in the first period...and closing out periods. But, they seem to get it going in the second and really turn it on in the third period.

I'm not as elated as a Hawks fan as the Wings are deflated right now. All the Hawks did was hold serve in Game 1. Encouraging how the Hawks played the last 40 minutes. Wings a turnover machine all game long. Didn't expect that. Gave the Hawks tons of chances.

Howard was incredible in this game. And Datsyuk will need to play the entire game, it seems like. Aside from him and Brunner, the Wings didn't do much offensively.

Crawford answers the call once again. 20 saves out of 21 shots. Only one goal against. And when Marcus Kruger scores, it's beyond a bonus.

Wings need to get more shots to the net, but can they? They seemed stifled all game long. Hawks double up on the Wings in shots 42-21.

Hawks still need to win Game 2 and hold serve in their building. Anything less will be a disappointing failure.

Why? Crawford wasn't good enough? And without Howard, the Wings get destroyed in this game.

Both goalies were great tonight.

It was a joke in response to esls' post about bringing in Ray Emery and 'The Monster' and the infamous waffle gif.

We got outplayed badly last night after the first period.

I am not happy with the officiating...they were terribly inconsistent. We had two awful calls against us and Hossa clearly took a dive while the Shaw makeup call was pretty bad too. There were missed penalties all over the place but a couple of brutal ones, especially the crosscheck to the throat/jaw.

With that said, we need to make some drastic changes if we dont want to go ahead and make a tee time.

I think that we'll have to agree about the turnovers being a factor, especially from a puck-possession point of view - you can't do much, if you don't have it. But, hopefully, we agree that Sharp stepped up in this one. Anybody would be quite naive to not consider the support cast that helped him to elevate his game 1 performance. But, outside oif the goaltenders, as you noted, where would this result have been without Patrick's effectiveness?

The thing that I like best about those things in Sharp's toolkbox is that he possesses great instincts. He tends to read plays as though he is drawing them up himself in the design room, and this guy can finish around the net. Without that last night, that game would have remained much closer than it did.
