A major problem our hitters have is extremely poor pitch recognition. They take so many 88 mph meat pitches right over the heart of the plate and swing at junk in the dirt once they're down in the count.
The old adage is "wait for your pitch". But far too often the Rangers hitters get "their pitch" very early in the count and either take it or foul it off. Then they have to battle the rest of the at-bat while behind in the count. Elvis is one of the worst offenders in that regard. Watch how many perfect meat pitches he fouls off into the 1st base stands. He's the most passive and defensive hitter on the team, with his ridiculous fake bunts and ducking out of the way of perfect strikes.
The Rangers just have no confidence right now and it shows in their approach to their at-bats. There is no aggression and no "I'm getting a hit off this clown" swagger. And it seems like the harder they try to fix things, the worse it gets.
Agreed. They don't have a clue about working the count and Profar, Mitch and Martin are getting worked over on the inside corner.
