I think the players reps and the GMs/owners of those two teams may be sitting on the fence just like we are wondering what the cap will look like next year before they dump all their cap into the QBs pockets. Its the unknown that is too risky not the players. Any GM worth two chits is going to still try to maximize their cap dollars even though they have to pay their QB. I could see Jerrah cave on this one down to 4 years and Dak takes less money as the trade-off in year 2.

I just don't see anyway Dak is traded. I don't think you get anything in return for a QB looking at $38M on a tag and who has turned down $175M (or whatever it really is) the year before and with Mahomes now (likely) signed at $40M per plus and coming off a not so great year and if he has a good year you have to sign him or tag him. I think Dak eventually signs here but I hope it is for the price the team is comfortable with and they don't get bent over again. Otherwise it's tag, tag, start over...No player is worth more than the team

I hope they come up with some kind of deal but I don’t see it happening. Dak is a good QB but he is not Mahomes or the 2nd coming of Troy or Roger. If they pass 7-15 which I think is the deadline he will not be a Cowboy long term.
That’s just my opinion. Jerry always says don’t let your money get mad but he also says you can over pay for quality. I think Stephen is driving this Bus though.

2 years wouldnt be costly for Dak. It would status quo. We are looking around 34.5 mil per
31 now plus 37 next year is right in that same neighborhood. Gonna be a bargain if we go that route of two years of tags.
Of course we will never have him long term if that happens, but the tag price is fine.

I feel like he will sign also.
Not as confident on it though as I was the Tag. I knew he would sign that.

I would be cool if he signed for 5 & no tag clause. That sounds like a real compromise.

Might get 5 and then a one year tag instead of two.
I was thinking that if the Cowboys let him play out the tag and then sign him to the four year contract he wants it would result in the same 7 years of control. Of course, waiting will only drive the yearly salary up. 5 years and 150 a year ago seems like a steal compared to what he'll get now

I've been thinking about this situation from a different angle lately. Maybe it is as simple as Dak is happy with $31M this year and $38M next year and isn't even worried about anything else and is going to come into camp thinking "Holy crap, I'm making $31M to play Football this year and another $5M ($10M?) in endorsements. Life is good. Let's go play some Football"

I know I've said that on here multiple times, but I now see it differently. This may not be in Dak's best interest. If Dak holds firm on 4 years and they use the tag on him the following year, he walks away with a boat load of more guaranteed money. So basically, he'd be right back here at the bargaining table in 5 years. Now there is a chance that things don't go his way and he ends up wishing he did take a 5th with a no tag clause, but when have we seen Dak not bet on himself? I'll bet that tag year he would make more (and be guaranteed) than what Jerry and Stephen would stuff into the 5th year of a longer deal.
I think Jerry and Co just need to pay the man his money on a 4 year deal and stop fretting over a 5th. Just draft a guy 2 and 3 years from now to groom.

What has he ever said to make you think this? I think he means what he says when he's looking at his age for his next deal. A five year deal with two Franchise Tags makes it possible he's a few weeks short of 34, which could take a higher salary out of his pocket.

A 5 year deal at 37.5M avg + 2 Franchise tags at probably 42.5M + a year would earn him over $260M for those 7 years. If that isn’t enough for 7 years then other factors kick in. With this COVID crap we aren’t going to see the escalation in cap levels that were being projected so there aren’t going to be the 50M a year salaries without the rest of the team suffering. Teams are going to have to release good players at the end of their rookie contracts to accommodate the Dak’s etc who are only concerned with dollars and not team

It has already been reported that he has a lot of insurance (like any athlete about to sign a big deal should) so injury from a financial perspective shouldn't be a huge part of the decision. I suspect that and his endorsements may be part of why he is in no big rush

I have no way of knowing, but my guess is this couldn't be further from the truth. My guess (and of course just a guess) is that if all 32 teams offered Dak the same contract he would sign with Dallas or at worst we would be in his top 3 or so. I'd be shocked if his motive was to "move on"

OK, now how much can he get on a 5 year deal in 2024? Thats what he's looking at. I believe he'd sign today for less than the 35 if it's a four year deal. He want's a 2nd LTD before he ages out of the NFL. Playing well past 30 like Brady and Brees isn't the norm, and he knows that.

Come on man. You are any one else have no idea about Dak. Dak sure seems like a team player to me. He wants to get paid what he thinks he is worth.
