Come on man. You are any one else have no idea about Dak. Dak sure seems like a team player to me. He wants to get paid what he thinks he is worth.
My point is the cap is not going to jump to levels where a single player is going to get 45-50M and not have it adversely affect the team’s ability to put a SB level on the field. The league has already announced that the 2021 cap will be around this season and the next couple years could be the same. To pay him what he wants could force the Boys to cut or trade multiple top-level players just to keep Dak

I don't know this, total speculation, but short of an NFC Championship game, I'm not sure Jerry doesn't just trade him after the season. I think really think Jerry is getting more pissed by the day..Jerry and Stephen were talking about how Dak's signing would be done soon a year ago at this time. Jerry is the same guy who parted ways with Jimmy Johnson after winning back to back Titles. I think after a great draft and changing coaches, that Jerry believes this team should contend for the Super Bowl. Red took the hit for missing the playoffs last year..is Jerry gonna take the blame if they lay another egg or will Dak take the hit. I know one thing, if he doesn't have a long term deal and throws up another no playoff season his leverage will be gone
Red did deserve the blame. Any sane head coach would have not let Maher have the opportunity to miss all those kicks. Starting old man Witten was also a dumb move.

I doubt the Cowboys will budge on the contract, especially with covid wreaking havoc. The big increase in the cap likely does not happen now.

I highly doubt any contract jumps to 40M anytime soon, not even for Mahomes. If Mahomes signs before Dak he's probably around 37M and Dak and Watson will slide in under that. I also think that with the covid issue possibility lowering the cap Neither Mahomes or Watson will be in too much of a rush to sign next off season.

Its coming. The cap can support a 40 million contract, but it comes with a price. Not all teams pay that same price though. If you are a team like Dallas who just signed nearly everyone of their young up-coming stars, you lost a real good corner. If you are a team without said assets, its easier to shell out that kind of money.

In Dallas's case, pretty much everyone is signed on already minus Dak. Cap goes up or down next year - not all players are then up for new contracts. For the most part they are a constant. Depending upon how much the cap goes down, you have to trim more overpriced guys than you normally would on a given year. For instance, if Dak was under a 40 million contract today, Ty Crawford would not be with the team. If the cap went south a bit, either the team dips into that rollover or they cut another player, or restructure a contract. Tyron would fit that bill for us.

I'm not going to argue a 40 mill contract is bad for the cap puzzle or team building, its obviously a strain on keeping your team competitive. But soon you'll have more pass rushers get paid, some will hit 25 mill. It is what it is. Until teams just say no, it will keep going up. Cap will keep going up for now, just at a more stagnant pace. Remember - owners got the okay for the extra playoff teams (2 games paying a low flat rate to players) and even extra regular season games. I sort of wish they would just put a % on players vs the cap. Like Dak could get 19.8%. So no matter the cap total, his salary is adjusted accordingly. Then any shortfall is made up in a bonus going into the final year. Any overage is deducted in the final year. Something of that nature. At least do that with the players making the most money.

Not yet it cant. Especially when every position is climbing the salary ladder.

I agree 40M is coming but not until 2022 at the earliest.

Every team hits the salary cap. So instead of paying a person x amount of dollars the contract should read the player gets X percent of the cap. If cap goes up, they get more $$. If goes down then less.

Just looking at alternatives. The player has to bet on himself but the team has to bet with the other players in mind too.

I cant see that working. If you mean every player on the team are equally paid, you're paying UDFA's the same as you're paying a Russell Wilson, or if you mean each position gets a certain percent, it still won't work with all teams not being built equally, and you'll be paying a draft pick QB the same as a Russell Wilson

I get the idea and have heard that discussed many times, but that's dangerous IMO. You can do it with one guy I guess, but at some point you start running up against 100% and trying to field a team. Plus rookie salary scale and vet minimum and signing bonuses sneak into your plans and need space left to cover. And how do you fit in big free agents or resigned players? I get your point and it makes sense, but I think it would completely fall apart after a few years. Under the current system if you sign Dak today and he takes up almost 20% of your cap you do it knowing in 4 years he will only take up 15% to clear space for the next guy. If players would accept lower year one amounts and no big bonus it would work better but is Dak going to accept $25M year one with no real bonus knowing he'll get $45M by year 5? Plus you could just cut him after a couple of years. It could work but I'm not sure it's better :2cents:

There is no truth to it. Folks like you just prefer to believe things without factual knowledge.
Look you LOVE everything Packers.

McCarthy fired from GB you are deeply in love with him. I and many other have hope, but are still in wait and see mode.

Philbin, has many failures, you are deeply in love with him. Again I'm in wait and see mode.
HaHa Dix, enough of a failure and while I agree he's probably an improvement over Heath, but I'm not sold on him at safety.

Facts are you self admitted you moved away from being a Cowboys fan due to their failures as of late, and now that the Cowboys have a deep GB look to them, you're fully on board, without seeing any results.

I don't deny you're a Cowboy's fan but theres no mistaken that you are ALSO a GB fan.

Let correct one thing. You're a Fair Weather Fan.

My wife is a Packers fan and no I'm not a fair weather fan of the Cowboys. I just got fed up with the poor coaching. Now I'm optimistic about the team.
