See. Fair Weather. What will you do if McCarthy fails? Run back to GB?
I'm hopeful that McCarthy is successful as should all Cowboys fans. I never supported the Packers to begin with so how could I possibly run back? You seem very sensitive on this issue.

I find it amazing we got a legit #1 wideout at 17. Cee Dee is going to make secondaries look bad

I cant see that working. If you mean every player on the team are equally paid, you're paying UDFA's the same as you're paying a Russell Wilson, or if you mean each position gets a certain percent, it still won't work with all teams not being built equally, and you'll be paying a draft pick QB the same as a Russell Wilson
Not equally paid. Just you get x percent of the cap

OK, who gets what percent? I guess I'm just not following what your thinking.

Instead of saying Dak gets 40 mil, it would be like 16.5%. Next year the cap goes up or down, Dak gets 16.5% of the cap. DLaw gets about the same and Amari gets 7% etc.
The who gets what % is negotiated. Was just thinking of another way to go with this. UDFA would get like .003%. LOL but it would show the worth to the team when you put it in %, IMO.

I could see a team trying to do this as the cap may be going down. I could see it. Many are just not going to watch that would have just a few years ago. Not saying they won't keep up with the stats but not watch the game or buy merch. and kill revenue. I know of several that won't watch. One picked up a hobby for Sundays now. Said he didn't miss it last year.

OK, now I see what you mean. Not sure if it will work as with players always trying to one uo to last guy eventually QB's would account for 1/2 of a teams cap.

It would be a paradigm shift type thing. But if a player has a huge contract and the cap goes down.... the Campo years all over again.

agreed we give Dak this big deal just so for a few hours he's the top earning QB and the CAP stays where it's at or goes down and we would have to eventually release or trade everyone else that's making more than a couple of million each. say good bye to Tank, Amari, the offensive line etc. every few years when rookie contracts are approaching their final years we would have to release them

salary cap for 2021 is set at 209M and without Dak's cap hit we have 36M in cap space. his cap hit whether as a franchise tag or with a new contract will all of that so what are our options?

Tap the brakes a little. While I am against this percent of the cap idea because I think it would become a runaway train and bad contracts would stay bad contracts for their entire term instead of lessening a few years in, I don't think anyone is proposing to give Dak 100% of the cap...

not suggesting 100% are even half that will happen but when you hear them talking about 40 to 50M for one player out of 200M that leaves you 150 to 160M for the other 52 men on the roster with some of that being eaten up by other factors. that's approximately 2.8M to 3.1M per player which isn't good

But why would it be 40 to 50M out of 200M if it is a percent? If he starts at 35M and goes up to 50M doesn't that mean the cap went up over 40% as well?

are you willing to gamble that it will go up that much? with covid it could be 2024 or 2025 before we see full stadiums again and the salary cap will not increase by those numbers correspondingly.

You aren't understanding the discussion. You are the one that said 45-50M. The only way Dak makes that (as compared to what he would make year one which is about $35M) in a scenario where the contract is set as a % of the cap is if the cap goes up significantly. You can't use $50M for Dak's contract (40% increase) and only use $200M for the cap (no increase). It's $35M/$200M or $50M/$285M because Dak's % of the total cap would remain unchanged if his salary were set as a fixed % of the total cap. Likewise if the cap decreases 10% so will Dak's (and everyone else's) salary.

2 things

1. The 2021 cap isn't set.
2. The NFL is looking at all options going forward including a possible cap increase.

However, in the latest episode of Pro Football Network’s NFL Draft Insiders podcast, Chief Draft Analyst and Insider Tony Pauline shed some more light on the situation. Pauline stated that currently, it is thought that the NFL would use a system of borrowing against future caps to protect the 2021 salary cap from a sharp drop. In fact, Pauline even stated that the NFL’s salary cap could potentially rise a small amount to $200 million in 2021.

I was just throwing out other ideas on how to approach this whole thing. talking out loud type thing.

Dak may kill us in just a few years. I don't think he will but I have learned that how bad contracts can set a team back eons. I think the last rookie one was Jamarcus russel and what he did to the Raiders. The Galloway trade killed us because it hung that money around our neck. He was good but not that good.
