No idea. There is no current crunch for 40-spots, so I would guess that they would prefer that he gets back to the game this season so he can cleanse the season from his pallet and so they can see him in action again.

Sure, but will he cleanse his peddle stool? :laugh3:

Not sure if this belongs on this thread, but I've been noodling the 2014 roster and the payroll. This is the breakdown:

Under contract (16): Cain, Bum, Tron, MVP, BB9, Scoots, Stamos, Panda, Oxy, Romo, JA, KCya, Dunning, Hembree, Chez3, Kiesh
Free Agents (5): Freak, Grope, Gangle, JLo, New LF
Arb Eligible (4): Mijares, Kobe, Abreu, Shark

Committed money -- $84.5MM
Free Agent Estimate -- Freak 15, Grope 1.5, Gangle 12, JLo 4, New LF 15. Total $47.5MM
Arb Elig Estimate -- Mijares 2.4, Kobe 1.4, Abreu 0.6, Shark 2.0. Total $6.4MM

Total Estimated Payroll: $138.4MM

There are potential savings with Petit/Kamp/Kick over Freak; minor leaguer over Mijares; let JLo walk; Panik/Noonan over Kobe; Peggs/JC over Shark; going in house vs. FA OF. Also, a trade for an OF would be cheaper than acquiring a FA.

However, I think Gangle is pretty much a lock and I'd expect his contract to be around 4/50. Freak will be something like 3/45 or 1/QO. Grope might command more like $2MM, but I think the $1.5 estimate will be close.

Still seems like there's plenty of room in the budget to overpay a FA OF.

Abreu activated from the 15 on Saturday
Hembree added to the 25 and 40
Monell added to the 25 and 40
Perez recalled
Kontos recalled
Dunning recalled
Peguero recalled
Noonan recalled
Adrianza called up

Two 40-spots will need to be cleared before Tuesdays game to make room for Monell and Hembree. Reports speculate Tanaka and Runzler.

Monell, Hembree and Adrianza all get their cuppo's. That will make 9 cuppo's on the season. Wow!

Perez, Keschnick, Noonan, Kickham, Dunning, Tanaka, Adrianza, Monell, Hembree.

Surprised that Dominguez was left off the list.

It's official...

Tanaka DFA'd
Runz DFA'd

Tanaka is almost certainly gone. I think Runz is out of options, so he is likely gone as well.

I think Runz is now officially a minor league free agent. Too bad he was never able to make it; I thought his control was good but the last two years it's been awful.

Can't wait to see Hembree...

Good time to tune back into baseball for me, excited to see Hembree and Adrianza! Hembree will wear number 38, B-Weez's old number.

There really isn't a spot on the 40-man for Dominguez, unless they decide to release Moscoso.

I remember listening to Runz' major league debut a couple years ago. He came in and struck out the side with an electric fastball. Miller was peeing all over himself about that performance. Alas, what might have been.

(Probably not his debut, but early on.)

Too bad for him, he was promising but he injured himself not even pitching and it probably ruined his career.

He as damn near perfect his first 10 appearances or so. He was certainly exciting to watch.

Then he came in the next year (2010??) and stunk up the joint, and was never anything more than a fringe guy moving forward. Too bad. Apparently there were a LOT of inquiries about him from other GMs (who knows how accurate "reports" are, though).

Options has nothing to do with it. This is th first time he has been DFA'd. Thus, if he passes thru waivers he will be in the Giants minors. (Any team can claim him.) Ditto Tanaka. The team can release either (or both as they see fit, but if they pass thru waivers, they can keep them if they wish.

On the other hand, Runzler has 7 years in the minors, and can walk if he so chooses (after the season ends).

By saying he was out of options, I meant that the G's would not be able send him to the minors again next season. All signs point to his Giants career being over.

As for Tanaka, he got his cuppo. He has nothing left to prove. He will move on. Panik will be holding down the Fresno 2B job next year and the OF will be crowded as well.

Both are done as Giants.

While I understand your point, options still has nothing to do with it because he is no longer on the 40-man roster. He doesn't *need* an option to spend next season in the minors. (Options are only needed for guys on the 40-man sent to the minors "on optional assignment").

Besides, as already mentioned, he can walk if he wants : he'll be a minor-league free agent. If the Giants want him, they'll have to sign him (and pay him more than the crap he'd earn as a pure minor leaguer). He may or may not get an interesting offer from another club.

Edit: Oh, and any team will be able to claim him in the rule 5 draft if he isn't on some team's 40-man by early December. So if a team wants him, they'll probably give him a good contract (any team claiming him would have to take over the contract).
