More likely Pill.

I would hope they would try to trade him first. If Gillespie is going to be claimed (Cubs, BTW), Pill will be claimed FAST.

Maybe 60 Chez?

Just FYI. When a player is DFA'd, it doesn't mean the player is gone. He is removed from the team's 40-man (and active) roster immediately, BUT the team has 10 days to try and work out a deal with another team. Also, any team can put in a waiver request (the player has to pass thru non-revokable waivers). If no deal is made and no claim is made, then :
(1) If the player has never been outrighted before And has less than 3 years service time, the team can outright him to the minors and he must go.
(2) If the player HAS already been outrighted he may choose to become a FA and leave the team immediately OR accept the assignment and become a free agent at the end of the season if he’s not back on the 40-man roster.
(3) If the player has at least 3 years service time he can refuse assignment and choose to become a FA immediately

Pill was outrighted in 2010.

Noonan and Machi down

Heston DFA'd, Casilla activated and Francouer purchased from Fresno

I'm shocked. But when I see things like this, I always think "they know something that I don't about this guy".

Another thought : any team can put in a waiver claim, and I bet several will (every cheap team will - HOU and MIA definitely). Only one team (the one with the worst record) can get the claim. BUT the Giants have 10 days to work out a trade with ANY team. It's drastic, and Heston is probably gone, but this is a way to judge interest and work a trade.

He has to clear all NL teams before Houston would have a shot. He will be claimed by Miami almost certainly. Lets just hope someone is willing to trade for him.

That was my point - I guess I should have been more obvious. With the two crappiest, cheapest teams in each league very likely to put in claims, others teams have to think "if I want him, I better offer something decent or I'll never get him".

Today only - The 25-man is increased to the 26-man and Surkamp is called up.

I am still not sure why the league expanded our roster. Anyone know the story behind this?

For all double headers they let you have a 26th man. Since it is two games in one day it gives each team a little more depth.

Has this always been the rule? I don't EVER remember hearing this rule before this situation.
