Cowherd: just admit you're critical of Lebron because you're worried he's better than Jordan

This is my list as well

I think when it's all said and done, LeBron will pass Magic and be 3rd on my list.

Pretty impossible at this point for him to pass MJ or KAJ, everyone talks about LeBron/Kobe being > than MJ, but KAJ is the only guy that has a legit resume when put up to MJ's.
Kobe Bryant was a selfish player and a poor passer but he was also asked to do point guard duties which cheated him from being the greatest in his natural skills. Kobe was not Michael Jordan though

I like Kobe a lot, I have him right around 10nth on my list of GOAT's, he's usually 10 or 11 when I sit down and make a list.

Why does everyone say that someone needs to have 6 or more titles to be the greatest ever? That's complete nonsense.

Because Jordan not only had the titles, he had the scoring titles, ALL NBA's, Defensive player of the year, the MVP's, and transcended the game.

When comparing all time greats, it always comes down to titles when they both have the rest.

I do agree that the ring count alone is not enough to compare to players. The stats and other things not covered in stats also are important. When we are talking about the Goat, however

1. Michael Jordan
2 Kareem Abdul Man at
3. Magic Johnson
4 Possibly LeBron but I think Celtic fans would argue Larry Bird and Bill Walton and some would argue Tim Duncan

Yeah but anyone arguing the players in #4 there are idiots

I'm just saying -- if someone comes along that we can all recognize is better than Jordan but he only ends up winning 4 or 5 titles, we're automatically going to disqualify him from being the greatest ever because he didn't win 6?

How is it 'no better'? It's one series better, by definition. You guys are missing a pretty obvious point because of MJ and your obsession with Wiggy. The idea is to advance as far as you can. This has nothing to do with MJ vs LeBron. It's better to take your team to the Finals even if you lose there, than to not make the Finals at all. This really is obvious.
Well technically yes, but no one will celebrate just reaching the finals and getting demolished. People remember the Lakers for winning all those titles in the 2000s, not the nets or sixers. I look at it as you're either the one winner or one of the many losers. You can make consolation prizes up to make you feel better, but nobody cares about number 2.

Go look at Jordan's numbers, just go look at them, then come back.

If someone puts up those numbers, and then wins 5 MVP's, A DPOY award, ALL-NBA and ALL-Defense as many times as he did, and 6 FMVP's (which is actually the most important), then sure, it's a conversation.

Jordan averaged 32.5/8/8 on 54% shooting in 88-89, that's absolutely absurd.

Dude also won 10 scoring titles, while averaging 30 ppg for his career on almost 50% shooting, lmfao.

If it weren't for the Wizards years, those numbers would be even more mind boggling.

That's all I'm saying. The "you need 6 or more titles" argument is bogus.

Averaged 33.5 ppg in the playoffs on 49% shooting, he also led the league in steals 3x which no one ever talks about.

He had 33.6 ppg/6/6 for his career total in the Finals, on a 48% clip

They only make that because Jordan has all the rest, his numbers are absolutely ridiculous, and even with his numbers some people wouldn't have put him above Magic/Russell/KAJ unless he got to 6.

But it's better to be #3, by not even making the Finals? Again, you guys are conflating different things. It's got nothing to do with MJ vs LBJ or legacies even. It's simply better to win more playoff series than to lose in earlier rounds. End of story. Why is this hard?

Of course, Ricky Bobby knows better:

You don't but several people in the industry with considerably more clout and credibility have placed Kobe closer to being almost as good then LeBron. The list by Michael Jordan and Phil Jackson is
1 Michael Jordan
2 Kobe Bryant
3 LeBron James

Jordan is the Babe Ruth of the NBA. He's the GOAT until someone can approximate both his numbers and his titles. LeBron isn't there yet, has a long shot to get there (not zero chance). If not him, maybe someday someone else. Lonzo Ball is close.

Two 3 peats. Zero losses in the finals. It's not about 6 rings. It's about domination. Did the Bulls ever even face a game 7 in the finals? Cmon Man!! It's like Groundhog Day around here lately

Word for the day...

So to make 7 finals but only win three is better than making six finals and winning all 6?
