Something to point out that was stated in the article.

They were close to a deal before Dez suddenly changed agents. And yes, the old agent was close with Jerry Jones and you would have to wonder who that agent was really working for. But then again, maybe the number was so shitty ..he bolted.

Probably for the best given the video rumours. Just a shame an extension didn't get done last year.

Jay Z is not Dez's agent. Jay Z owns the agency Dez's agent works for. To the best of my knowledge, Tom Condon represents Dez for Roc Nation (or whatever the agency is called). Condon is a BIG time agent.

Jerry may have wanted him to take a hometown discount.

Or he had a damn good deal that was in line with the best receivers and someone from Rock nation was looking to make a "historic" deal.

I would have preferred they signed Dez and tagged Murray.

Maybe Dez's agent was being a douche ..who knows. It all comes down to how Dez will handle it.

Dez Bryant of Dallas Cowboys to be franchised - ESPN Dallas

Reflecting back on Dez's character history with this team (fighting his own moms), not only in the pros, but from college, would that have been a sound judgement call for any organization? I think not. Would have also been kind of difficult now to guarantee him all that bread down the road and tie up future salary cap numbers with this mysterious video allegedly still out there somewhere.

However, on the other hand, giving Murray, a back with a history of injuries just coming off one of the heaviest workload seasons of any RB, a long term guaranteed contract instead of just a one year tag guarantee (which is a much safer course for this team), is almost just as dicey. Damned if you do, or damned if you don't. Just a matter of which side of the sword do you want to fall on if things goes south real quick.

Ultimately, I think the team made the right decisions here. The RB position is not as critical to their long term plans I think (and accurately evaluating a young WR widely considered the best, if not the 2nd best, in the league with documented repetitive character issues), and examining Dez's psyche further before committing any long term big guaranteed bucks when trying to manage a cap and stay competitive going forward...is the safer play. RB's shelf life, especially injury prone ones, is not seen as a long-term premium anymore in this league, as past drafts would also indicate. Just the smarter business move for this team now imo, which is why you just can't become a fan of individual players in this league and stay competitive.

What has Dez done off the field since 2011. The so called Wamart Video indecent was and is a non story. People make mistakes. So in your perfect world, whatever you did in your past should never allow you to make top dollar . That is ridiculous!! The smart business move is to pay Dez, he earned it!

Um, how about attacking his mother prompting her to call the Police and report that he had just ripped her clothes, pulled her hair, and hit her across the face with his cap??? Your mother of all people???

"After being transported to the DeSoto police department, Angela Bryant, 37, provided a written statement detailing the alleged assault. According to the report, she stated Dez Bryant repeatedly struck her in the hands and wrists. Officers observed bruising on both arms. She also complained that her chest was sore from Bryant pushing her.

After a warrant was issued for his arrest, Bryant turned himself in Monday and was booked without incident."

...and then there's this beauty.

"The Cowboys wide receiver walked to the locker room alone with 1:21 left in yesterday’s stunning loss to the Packers. He waited until replay confirmed Tony Romo’s game-clinching interception, but then stormed off to leave his teammates to watch the Packers kill the clock."

"According to Calvin Watkins of ESPNDallas.com, Bryant told reporters he was too upset to talk about it after the game, but took to Twitter last night to say he was “emotional.”

And how about this report....

"If he does gets franchised, Bryant will likely miss OTA’s, according to ESPN’s Ed Werner"

...or

"I need to get me a real raw uncut tv show or something ... I can't continue to get betrayed like this," Bryant tweeted Wednesday. The tweet has since been deleted."

Implying that his team may have leaked this mysterious video story rumor about him to hurt his contract negotiations and earning power. Let's not forget about this mysterious video thing either possibly turning up at the worst moment, and just so lackadaisically dismiss it. We all saw how much damage it caused to Ray Rice's future in the NFL when graphic video is released about a star player to the media, and what it could also due to Dez and this team if true and released, 2011 or not. Does the Cowboys as an organization feel all warm and fuzzy now inside with Dez and their current negotiations after all these incidents and reports?? Gotta asked yourself that question here as well, and answer it honestly.

Hey, you asked the question. Professional football is a business built in reality, not just what or who we may like in any given situation or individually. That's just the reality of it all that many fans seem to just simply dismiss when it's not their bread being handed out, or team profits/image to keep competitive and clean year after year. I'm living in the real world.

What world is that? ..the one with Adrian Peterson?

Mug shot below:

A warrant has been issued in Montgomery County, Texas, for the arrest of Vikings running back Adrian Peterson, after he was indicted on a felony charge for reckless or negligent injury to a child. A report by CBS Houstonhas some details, and they are disturbing.

From the report:

Peterson’s son had pushed another one of Peterson’s children off of a motorbike video game. As punishment, Peterson grabbed a tree branch – which he consistently referred to as a “switch” – removed the leaves and struck the child repeatedly.

The beating allegedly resulted in numerous injuries to the child, including cuts and bruises to the child’s back, buttocks, ankles, legs and scrotum, along with defensive wounds to the child’s hands. Peterson then texted the boy’s mother, saying that one wound in particular would make her “mad at me about his leg. I got kinda good wit the tail end of the switch.”

Peterson also allegedly said via text message to the child’s mother that he “felt bad after the fact when I notice the switch was wrapping around hitting I (sic) thigh” and also acknowledged the injury to the child’s scrotum in a text message, saying, “Got him in nuts once I noticed. But I felt so bad, n I’m all tearing that butt up when needed! I start putting them in timeout. N save the whooping for needed memories!”

In further text messages, Peterson allegedly said, “Never do I go overboard! But all my kids will know, hey daddy has the biggie heart but don’t play no games when it comes to acting right.”

According to police reports, the child, however, had a slightly different story, telling authorities that “Daddy Peterson hit me on my face.” The child also expressed worry that Peterson would punch him in the face if the child reported the incident to authorities. He also said that he had been hit by a belt and that “there are a lot of belts in Daddy’s closet.” He added that Peterson put leaves in his mouth when he was being hit with the switch while his pants were down. The child told his mother that Peterson “likes belts and switches” and “has a whooping room.”

I don't see, and many other people don't I'm sure, AP as having the same long documented "character" issues problems as Dez. I must say that I have also been beaten and whipped before when I was a child, and was even made to undress before getting whipped with an extension cord while growing up. My has times certainly changed. I think you are comparing apples to oranges here though when we talk about a player's documented history and repeated character flaws, versus what has become socially acceptable or not in today's society. There are also no mysterious secret video tapes floating out there that could potentially hurt AP and his team, or any real concerns from NFL people about the future of AP's decisions in regards to any repeated incidents. While with Dez there are. Just what I believe. When we are talking about what could happen here after handing someone with repeated character flaws huge amounts of guaranteed bread that could come back to bite you in the ass, versus something that has already happened and there is not the same general amount of huge concern of it repeating itself again, you are bringing up two completely different scenarios.

Greg why are you wasting your time posting old news???? Dez is right to think that timing of a non issue 4 years ago suddenly is important now. There was no video!!!!!!! It was a non issue that Floreo and Shefter tried to make it an issue. They are fools looking at a case that was closed!!!!! Read the police report!!!! This was a non story!!!!! Find something from Dez that is current!!!

You posted here that Dez hasn't gotten into any off-the-field issues since 2011. I was just responding to that as not being true, that's all.

Team will decide Monday whether to use the exclusive or non-exclusive tag on Bryant.
The Cowboys would retain exclusive negotiating rights to Bryant with the exclusive tag, a one-year tender offer to a player at an amount no less than the average of the top five salaries at his position or 120 percent of the player's previous salary. With the non-exclusive tag, the Cowboys retain the right to match any offer, or else receive two first-round picks as compensation.

I think it's a safe bet that they'll go with the exclusive tag. :hope:
