And? I thought you were the champion of the sports no one gives two shits about, with your rowing and softball threads.
btw I'm sure your looking forward to my 2019 Henley Rowing Regatta thread. Princess Kate is handing out the trophies this year.

Go ahead then - lay out your payment schedule. How much does each team get? How much do the players on each team get? Surely Tua isn't making as much as the 3* backup OT that never plays, right?

Bama players probably make more dough than players on NFL practice squads.

I think you're debating yourself here. By your own statements, they both 'capitalize' by earning the same scholarship.

Even though the cash value of a football player's scholarship at Stanford is worth several multiples more than the kid at Western Michigan. But we won't go there...

Except you are an idiot because you don’t know that the overwhelming majority of athletic departments are currently losing money and take money from the educational side of things. Only about 1/5th of athletic departments turn a profit. So by making it the Wild West and letting universities buy up the best athletes it will widen the already huge chasm between the elite programs and those that aren’t.
why should their financial performance and the allocation skills of their administration impact my school? if you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.

Same reason why sports leagues have salary caps.

that's a fair point, but I'll suggest that 'salary caps' aren't always absolute and many leagues have a 'luxury tax' if teams chose to spend over. the point is some teams can afford to pay more and they do.

It boils down to fairness and compensating students fairly. Right now, it isn't fair. And keeping it unfair is your best idea.

You're probably right about that. Oregon has a larger national base seeing how they were a recent hot item. Washington hasn't done much since the 90's other than in 2000 when it finished 3rd in the AP poll. Hopefully that's all about to change with the help of Chris Petersen.

Didn't he lose their rivalry (to Oregon) and bowl games this year?

I heard he likes super girthy peckers.

Know where the money from that merchandise, TV contracts, and other things the universities make bank on goes?
Tuition, room & board, food, clothing, transportation, hotel lodging, equipment, state of the art training facilities (and facility upkeep and management), nutritionists, tutors, and other staff members, on top of stipends the kids already get. All of this for the athletes. For some reason, people conveniently forget about this when they talk about paying them.
That's a good argument....one I'm not willing to make when my team is raking in $75 million dollars in profits.

Yes it is, by a large margin actually. If you take all of the scholarship athletes on a college campus and look at the value they bring the school as compared to the value of what they're getting with their scholarship packages, the overwhelming majority of student athletes are significantly overpaid. All of that money brought in by basketball and football teams (actual revenue sports) are brought in largely due to a small number of elite players. The 8th man on Duke's bench and the 4th string RG at Alabama aren't bringing in shit with their own personal performances, but they're making out like bandits in compensation.

And this is why your argument is so incredibly ignorant.

Go look up what it costs to build one of those state of the art athletic facilities. Go look how much it costs to not only build but maintain and renovate these massive stadiums. Are you gonna tell me a backup catcher on the baseball team that barely plays, who's getting a full ride and all of the additional benefits brought by their scholarship package, deserves to also get paid a salary? Please.

The average fan can’t name more than 5 players on their team.

Outside of football and men's basketball, I couldn't name 5 other scholarship athletes in all of the other sports combined at Ohio State.

Solid point in my opinion- may I add:
Free hair cuts or stylist
XBox consoles in locker rooms & athletic lounge
Airline mileage awards on uncharted flights.
Free food 24/7

There is more pile it on.

I even mean on football and basketball too. People who go to know more than they average Joe who just pays attention on game day.
