Mrs 43's school failed to tell the staff *who* exactly tested positive. THE STAFF. They all found out who it was in their group text chat from her directly. Everyone was asking who and she was like "It's me. They seriously didn't tell you?"

They also have not really initiated contact tracing so knowing which kid brought it in is going to be tough. And more than half of the kids in her grade level have a sibling in another grade. Who are all in class this week.

They are so scared of being sued that they are really opening themselves up to being sued. I admit, I would rain down on them with great vengeance and furious anger if she got really sick.

I can understand them not saying who specifically tested positive due to privacy laws (even in a pandemic) as long as effective contact tracing is happening. (Edit: scratch that ... i mean it with no conditions) They prob dont want to stigmatize anyone and make people targets (racial hate crimes here have been happening) People find out anyways though:noidea:

I know theyre being severely stretched here with regards to tracing but they are still doing it unlike alberta and ontario who have just given up on that. But informing us 10 days after last exposure??? What the hell is that? :L

What they told the families in her class was that there was a positive test in the class. Not who. Her class was sent home to quarantine, and all teachers and teachers' assistants in the grade level are also quarantined. So that I get, in order to not identify within the class.

But to not tell the people who have worked with her for 10 years? Who share a break room, etc? That's kinda rough.

Although we may have gotten our first clue. A parent just sent her a $50 doordash gift card out of the blue along with a note telling her to make the best of the quarantine. As far as we know, the parents don't know who is positive. Maybe a guilty conscience?

Also, she was in the kitchen a bit ago getting a snack. I walked behind her and, as is tradition, I smacked her on the butt. She turned around and shot my hand with Lysol spray.

The first exposure at my kid’s school that I know of was not reported at all. Last two had letters sent out. letters just say, if health authority does not contact your kid, don’t worry about it. They don’t even tell the class if there was a positive, just the students sitting directly next to the positive.

But the first one, the school didn’t even tell the staff member that was in direct contact with the affected student. The parent called the staff member directly a week later and suggested they quarantine and test. So fucked up.

imo, i wouldnt expect the institution to tell me this specific info. If there was a long personal/colleague relationship, id be kinda upset that person didnt directly share such info :noidea:

Well, that's ultimately what happened. But I still think it's fucked up that she had to be the one to do it.

In this case the school is responsible for everyone being together in the first place, so why should they be let off the hook when there is an exposure so each person on staff can determine their personal level of risk? They didn't bother with any type of contract tracing. No sorting out who would have been in the teacher's lounge or office at the same time. No trying to figure out if any special area teachers had been in contact with the person who tested positive. Nothing to guide their employees at all. Left it to them to talk about it offline on their own.

Ohio Health Dept says anyone who has close contact with someone who has tested positive is supposed to quarantine for 14 days or until they have two successive negative tests. Kinda hard to do that when no one will say who tested positive.

Healthcare privacy for a highly contagious and potentially debilitating disease is absurd to me. This really shouldn’t be some right to privacy balancing act. We’ve sacrificed our entire society to try and get this shit under control, what the fuck is the point of that if we’re sensitive about sharing who tests positive and who might be at risk?

By no means am i saying that the parties who played a role in what your wife experienced did the right things along the way. Clearly youve shown there are alot of holes and disfunction and failure in the systems present in your area.

what i am trying to say is, in a completely functioning system (hopefully not only in a perfect world cause that doesnt exist), the school would have (should have) worked with the health authority in charge and they would have done the requisite contract tracing (in a timely fashion) to determine who should isolate and who was at risk.

In this working scenario, where the school is sharing information with health authorities, they should never have to name the person who is infected. :noidea:

Of course, another answer would be Alberta...

That's the thing - it's hardly limited to us and by and large we're doing better than most even if the provincial government here are dumb and thought we didn't need a mask mandate (the only other provinces that didn't have one were AB, SK and PEI so that's telling you something lol).

Even despite all of this Canada as a whole are doing fantastic compared to literally any other western nation.

Thank goodness for sparse population density lol.

/How is South Korea doing so well? 50 million people and in a pretty small country to boot.

They took zero shit from day one and quarantined and tracked the hell out of people. The government had supplies ready for individuals and families that needed to quarantine. They were really strict about tracing people who even had POTENTIAL contact with an infected person.

At least that's what a buddy of mine who lives there said.

I think we're pretty well on the same side here. But, Ohio's system is completely overwhelmed. For example, we found out that her test results were reported on Monday's totals. Her positive test was last Wedensday. They can't get the results in to the system, there is no way that they are going to be able to effectively contact trace at a state-wide level. Plus there is still Cletus VonFuckstick out there everywhere threatening any official who even suggests that it's real. So the essential task of understanding the spread isn't happening well enough.

I don't want them putting it on the Marquee facing the main road that Mrs 43 has the 'rona, but I am okay with them letting the small group of teachers inside the organization know so that group can take steps to protect themselves appropriately. Standing aside and just saying "The gubment can handle it" isn't helping anything especially when we're talking a small group of 75 or so people.

I remember a viral post from around the beginning from an American guy who got permission to travel to SK with his South Korean wife for a family funeral. He said the government met them when they landed. tested them both and then escorted them to an apartment where there was more than 2 weeks worth of food and cleaning products. They had to stay in that apartment for 14 days even though both tested negative. They did not fuck around.
