Zoom, Peloton, Roku, Netflix, and co. all getting hammered though under the belief people might start being out of their houses again soon.

I'm hopefully skeptical. I know the process for clinical trials and FDA approval is (rightfully) long and the process to manufacture and distribute 7 billion doses will be even longer.
On Friday Nintendo announced their 6 month profit up to Sept 2020 tripled ... stock down 6% right now

Knowing what little (ie: jack shit) I do about the vaccine trial process, it's still being trialed and the results are unverified correct?

I hope to god they do have something but how is this "news" having the impact it is? Have interim reports with similar language often been a precursor to a useful vaccine?

Yeah, I'm still hopeful for distribution widely available by late summer 2021. If it's a little earlier, awesome.

/The next hurdle is actually getting people to take the vaccine.
The fewer people that want it, the shorter the line is for me.
Speaking of doctors, Dr. Ben Carson has tested positive for COVID-19.
He actually contracted it in August, he just woke up today and realized it.

They are further along in the process and far closer to approval than any other. The peer review has signed off on the testing procedures. Going by history, the next step is approval and production.

Like when the AP calls a state in the election, all the counting isn't done but the outcome is pretty well sealed.

If they make the vaccines required at hair salons and truck rallies, that should cover most of the reluctant ones.

Maybe make vaccine-enriched Hot Pockets.
Better throw in slim jims and Mountain Dew just to be safe

I think even under ideal circumstances, it's going to be longer than that before your average, healthy, non-risk factor, non-front line individual (say, average fitness 35 year old accountant) can get one.

once a vaccine is available, if idiots don't want to take it that's fine.
let them spread among themselves.

just make it clear that they waive rights to stress the medical system
if you don't believe in science, you wouldn't need a doctor, right?
Not picking on you specifically, but that mentality is surprisingly widespread and surprisingly dangerous.

My ex was immunocompromised and couldn't take the majority of vaccines. And my current SO is allergic to one of the inactive ingredients they use in several vaccines, so it was especially important for them that other people get vaccinated because they literally cannot without putting themselves at enormous risk.

True. That's a good point but it only emphasizes the stupidity and utter selfishness of the anti-vaxxer crowd. As far as I'm concerned if they choose to not be vaccinated with no legitimate medical reason then they shouldn't be allowed in public programs.

Don't they ban kids who aren't vaccinated from public schools here? I have a kid cousin who wasn't allowed back to school because she missed a booster.

I know my kid's daycare does. And they're strict about it. Honestly can't remember the policy at my other kid's school. The missus must have done the paperwork, so I don't know if there is a zero tolerance policy or not in Alberta.

Just a quick google search and it seems that in Alberta it is NOT mandatory. Fucking rednecks.

This I agree with. There are legitimate medical exemptions and (very) limited religious exemptions that I think should be considered, but otherwise, you and your children should have no place in public society if you choose not to be vaccinated against certain contagious* diseases.

* - I'm placing emphasis on both certain and contagious because while certain vaccines prevent against undoubtedly unpleasant but not overly dangerous (say, shingles) and there are others that are undoubtedly dangerous, but not generally communicable (say, tetanus), I am more supportive of a voluntary compliance program because you are not generally placing others at an increased risk in the same way that measles or, in the past, smallpox and polio, would be doing.

good point. I didn't think about those who can't get the vaccine. only those who don't want it.

plan b - anyone who doesn't want the vaccine, has to move to Florida.
then time for Bugs Bunny and his saw to finish the job.

If it wasn't for Florida people, Florida itself has some really useful stuff like beaches, golf courses and Sebring International Raceway. We should send them to a state we are using like a Dakota or Wyoming.

Yeah but most of them are already here. Local news poll, "would you be willing to get a vaccine when it becomes available?"

36% yes
63% no
