You might want to look at the video again. Utley started his slide on the right field side of second base.

It's a late, dirty slide. There is nothing in the rules saying you're allowed to take someone out and there are rules saying you can't interfere with the catch and throw. Tradition says it's allowable but technically it isn't. They let it go when no one gets hurt but when someone does they're going to enforce it. Unless it's a star making the slide, god forbid the suspend someone that may hurt the ratings. Which is another reason his appeal won't get heard until after today. MLB wants him in the game

Coincidentally, this is probably the only game in series with the Mets that the Dodgers would want to start Utley over Kendrick. Utley has pretty good numbers against Harvey.

Watch this end with no suspension and a fine.

that joe torre interview was hilarious. he basically said Utley is suspended because Tejeda got hurt. u can think he should be suspended or not but that reasoning was awful

I'm uhhh convinced that uhhhh Joe uhhh Torre is uhhh in desperate need of uhhh public speaking uhhh courses.

He seemed so out of sorts talking to the media!

I think Dodgers and Mets fans can all agree that Utley is definitely Darth Vader and he's been pulling shit like this against the Mets for years.

Utley's agent can show up at a hearing with 100 examples of this with no suspensions or fines. Baseball has to admit they're only going to so something if there's an injury and move on.

In his defense he drinks during the games so by that inning he was probably lit

MLBPA is going to say the same thing. That's why the hearing is being held up. MLBPA is researching previous incidents and precedents.

:playball:

I have no problem with plays like this resulting in fines/suspensions. My problem is with this being the first one. Torre has even said that he's been discussing these things all season and plan to do more in the off season. That's a big red flag to me that the rule, as written and enforced, is flawed and they know it. They need to clean it up this winter and make things crystal clear so everyone knows what they can and cannot do.

Okay!! There is "no" rules against the Utley slide. Torres made a decision to suspend Utley, let's see how that works out.

Let MJ be the one to bring up a thread that has "nothing" to do with the current thread. Dude, if you have nothing to say about this thread, then why are you even on it.

I was at a trade show three weeks ago and I personally witnessed a grown man pick his nose and eat it.

It could and probably should, but it hasn't before and that is why this is bullshit.
I agree, if MLB has a problem with Utley's slide, then they should bring it up during the offseason.

Especially during the playoffs. I think he went high & late and it was a stupid move by a guy that should know better, but a suspension doesn't seem right. And fuck the Dodgers.

I really don't think the suspension will get upheld. Maybe it gets knocked down to one game, but I suspect a fine will be the end of it. Then a big rule change/clarification before Spring Training.

I feel bad for the Mets and Tejada. I really don't like this kind of baseball.
