I don't think there's much difference in this play. If he doesn't break a bone then no suspension is given.

There's a big difference. One player touched the bag, the other did not.

I listed the rule when I quoted Torre. That rule covers it.

"I believe his slide was in violation of Official Baseball Rule 5.09 (a) (13), which is designed to protect fielders from precisely this type of rolling block that occurs away from the base."

The big difference between the play the other night and the video that was posted was that Holiday touched the bag and Utley did not. That's what I was commenting on.

I don't give a shit about the double play....sure, it would have been nice had Tejada turned it....but you can't assume he would have.

I'm 1000 x more upset about the call being challenged, and the out call at 2nd being reversed to safe.

The only thing that makes ANY sense as to why it was overturned is that the ump felt it wasn't a neighborhood play. Since a neighborhood play isn't a challengeable play, the can only challenge a force play.

I hate that slide and I really don't like that kind of baseball. But to suspend Utley is stupid. That play has happened multiple times this year and no one else has been suspended. Now you're going to suddenly enforce it in the playoffs? That's some bullshit.

I think they should change the rules. I don't think they should allow that to happen in the future. But it's unfair to suddenly suspend a guy just because old man Torre was at the game and he made a hasty and emotional decision to do something about it.
