Except for the ones (plural) that they let walk away. Terrible football town.

Not really LA's fault when the Rams had an owner that knew jack shit about football and only moved to St. Louis because that's where she was from. And was convinced to move because the people said they'd buy her things if she did.

That would be the best case scenario for the Raiders. The lastest I hear is that Davis is exploring Las Vegas. Getting these football stadiums built in California is a tough deal.

Yep, been hearing the Vegas thing myself. Somebody, can't remember who it was now, speculated that they'd even fly Raiders fans from LA and Oakland in for the weekend for home games. That sounds crazy expensive to me, but if the NFL has proven one thing. Its that people will pay through the nose for their product.

Why would LA have to prove they can support a team? LA has always supported a team.

It blows my mind, that people are ignorant about why the teams left LA and why they want to come back now.

Exactly. Georgia moved the Rams because she got a hair up her ass and Al wanted the Coliseum renovated so he could have PSL's and make more money (like any business owner). It wasn't because the city couldn't support a team, that's far from accurate.

Gotta be some lottery deal where they fly a dozen or so on a company jet.

Explain why the Rams were in LA since the 50's, if it's a horrible football town. And lets see if you know why the Rams and Raiders left in 94 and why those teams want to come back.

It's crazy, because majority of fans really believe those teams left because LA couldn't support a team.

That's what happens when you buy the party line........hook, line, and sinker and don't research why they left in the first place.

Is this basically him hoping the city of San Diego will build him a new stadium free of charge or he moves in 2017? Sounds like it.

The NFL just gave him 100 million dollars to assist with basically getting a stadium built in SD. SD as a city better get their shit together. It's a pipe dream to expect owners to just pay for an entire new NFL stadium these days.
Paul Allen assisted in getting the new Seahawks stadium built, but the city did have to pay for part of it as well, and it's worked out perfectly. The bonds are getting paid off on schedule and we got a world class facility that not only hosts the NFL games, but MLS, and other events. So it doesn't sit like some white elephant empty for 99% of the days providing nothing.

That is part of it is that a city can benefit just as much from these NFL teams as they do from the city. I mean the NFL games alone with all the money that flows into the city on those 8+ games is huge. Then you throw in like you said having a world class facility to host other events it eventually makes it worth it usually for the city to support the building of a new stadium. Now having said that though the teams that have the worst attendance maybe for them it isn't as worth it because it does lack the money coming in. For San Diego and the Raiders they have been 2 of the worst in the league for attendance for quite some time. They both sit in the bottom 10 of the league for percentage of tickets sold. So I can see the hesitation in the cities when maybe they are not seeing the return of other cities.

The main reason the Rams moved from Los Angeles was because the Coliseum held +90,000 fans and the NFL at time said that if a team was to televise a home game, they had to be sold out 72 hours in advance. The Rams could never sell out the +90,000 fans, so the owner decided to move the team.

Both their stadiums are dumps, so attendance hurts in that department. Eventually the fans feel as if the franchises don't give a shit about them and nobody wants to be made felt like a sucker for investing themselves into a sports team. Mariners fans have been treated like that by the crappy ownership up here, even with Safeco field being a beautiful facility which almost makes it worse.

The Raiders have perpetually crapped all over their fans for many years now, but I still have a certain respect level for Raiders fans because many stick with them. They're few bandwagon Raider fans these days.

Any time a franchise stinks for as long as the Raiders have and the fans keep showing up supporting the team especially if they don't know if the team will be there next year or not you have to tip your hat to those fans. They are becoming fewer and fewer though as attendance has steadily been in the decline over the last 5 years. I think they have an owner that cares but the problem is he doesn't have the cash flow to really show that to the fans. There is a reason the Raiders couldn't spend all of their Cap Money this past year and why none of the big name players are even considered in they just don't have the ability to pay a guy $40 million up front to a huge contract. I'm going to be interested to see what they do when a guy like Mack and Carr both come up for new contracts in the same year and will most likely be demanding huge money if they keep up what they have done.

I went to many games in the Los Angeles Coliseum since 1954 and the place was even a dump back then. IMO, the new stadium will really help with the attendence.

There's actually been a number of independent studies done on this that put some serious doubt into whether it's really worth it or not.

It USED to be more worth it, because the city/county/etc was getting a % of the gate or the parking or the concession.

That's old. Most of these deals now give 100% of those revenue streams to the owner of the team.

It's a racket. It's indirect taxation, or in the case of DFW, where I slogged through a bunch of the articles on the subject, a user fee that will last sometimes decades. So if you fly into DFW, or rent a car, a % of your cost goes to Jerrah.

Interesting. I guess I view it as worth it for the city in the sense at least I know in Denver every single bar every single Sunday the Broncos are on is completely filled to the brim. People from all over the state come for the game bringing in revenue in all that they do in the city. We are also then talking about the tax money coming from millionaire players and personnel for the team. We are also talking lots and lots of jobs upwards of over 1000 in the city that are all being taxed as well. I can definitely see what you are saying of how the cities are not quite making as much as they used to but I would bet they are still seeing some return on the investment in helping fund the stadium.

I think that a city would need to prove they can support a team no matter where they go. Even though I like San Diego, I've never thought San Diego was capable of supporting the Chargers enough. I don't understand why you'd have a city go from having no teams to having 2 in the same year. That makes no sense to me. I don't believe the Raiders need to be so close to the 49ers, I don't think the Rams needed to be so close to Kansas City, I don't think the Jets need to be so close to the Giants. It's just my point of view on the whole thing. LA should have a team, but not 2. In order for it to even be justifiable in my mind LA would have to show that they're capable of showing out for 2 teams. I'm not sure they're capable of doing that for 1 team. That's only because I haven't seen it. I'm not saying LA can't do it, I'm just saying they shouldn't be gifted 2 teams at the same time before the fans have shown what level of interest is. It doesn't matter how the teams left over 20 years ago. If they can't support 2 teams, then they shouldn't have 2 teams. It's that simple to me.
