Will try to get stadium built in SD. If it doesn't get done the deal in LA is final.

ROGER GOODELL STATEMENT ON CHARGERS

nfl.gif
"We are very supportive of the decision by Dean Spanos to continue his efforts in San Diego and work with local leaders to develop a permanent stadium solution. NFL ownership has committed $300 million to assist the cost in building a new stadium in San Diego. I have pledged the league's full support in helping Dean to fulfill his goal. "

Just hope he doesn't make a half ass effort just to save face then bolt to LA. This is a good way to save some of his fans. If it's a good faith effort and the city votes it down, I'm much more likely to continue supporting them, though I would rarely if ever make the drive to LA.

Good. SD stays in Southern California, (hopefully for good) the Rams stay in LA (hopefully for good) and the Raiders....

Well I want them to stay in the Bay Area, but...

The Chargers are already working on a deal on how they will share the LA stadium with the Rams so unless SD counters with a mind blowing offer the Chargers will be in LA for the 2017 season.

Is this basically him hoping the city of San Diego will build him a new stadium free of charge or he moves in 2017? Sounds like it.

Spanos broke the news in an open letter to Chargers fans:

I have met with Mayor (Kevin) Faulconer and Supervisor (Ron) Roberts and I look forward to working closely with them and the business community to resolve our stadium dilemma. We have an option and an agreement with the Los Angeles Rams to go to Inglewood in the next year, but my focus is on San Diego.

This has been our home for 55 years, and I want to keep the team here and provide the world-class stadium experience you deserve.

Everyone on both sides of the table in San Diego must now determine the best next steps and how to deploy the additional resources provided by the NFL.

That's great news. Although, with the voters down here, it's still up in the air.

You guys must be hurting, have a brother in SD, Charger fan, and everything you dudes say about the owner and crappy fan base seems to be true. Another suffering season.

Hope it works out, because it sucks when a team moves away to another city.

Congrats I guess, so Deano is saying I get a new stadium or else I'm leaving for LA.

I feel like the Raiders and Chargers have no home in America. Moving them to Canada or Mexico would make more sense to me. LA needs to prove they can support the Rams before they get a whole nother franchise. Toronto, Mexico City, or London would make more sense to me.

I still think the best thing the Raiders could do right now is move into Levi's. Not permanently, but indefinitely until they can get something worked out. The coliseum is a dump, they need an alternative. Levi's would give them a nice stadium to play in for the time being. I personally would like to see the Chargers and Raiders remain in San Diego and Oakland respectively as well.

Good. I transfer to SD in July and it would be nice to be able to catch some games.

Free of charge? Hardly. It's not known what the deal with LA is, and likely won't be known. But it's one of two things:

1) Partnership - Spanos pays half the construction costs ($1 billion), plus the $550 million relocation fee.
2) Tenant (aka, Kroenke's bitch).

Spanos would prefer option one, but everyone knows he can't afford it. The latest offer San Diego made him was that he would pay around $350 million, and now he has an extra $100 million to spend.

Looking good for San Diego, but a vote will be close. Like I said if Spanos makes a good faith effort and my fellow San Diegans vote it down, I'm much more likely to continue to support the Chargers if they leave.

NFL.com:
NFL ownership has committed $300 million to assist in the cost of building a new stadium in San Diego

Still don't think they stay. Especially given that the NFL owners are basically saying "we know you don't want to stay but here's some extra money in hopes you do." That should tell SD fans everything they need to know right there.

That would be the best case scenario for the Raiders. The lastest I hear is that Davis is exploring Las Vegas. Getting these football stadiums built in California is a tough deal.

Why would LA have to prove they can support a team? LA has always supported a team.

It blows my mind, that people are ignorant about why the teams left LA and why they want to come back now.

Except for the ones (plural) that they let walk away. Terrible football town.
