I thing it's only natural that when you get hit or see that you're about to, you lower your head. The only thing I would change, is that if both players lower their heads and the tackler doesn't vault himself leading with his head, then it's not targeting.

You're taught at a young age to put your shoulder into a ball carrier. Craning your neck backwards is unnatural. When you're running at a full-on sprint and the QB crouches down, there's nothing that could be done differently. It was a horrible call that completely changed the game.

As far as the two "controversial" calls. I think the targeting call was the correct call, the call itself sucks because it wasn't intentional, but was correct by the letter of the law. The fumble/catch I thought was a fumble, but idk what the fuck constitutes a catch so I'll sit that one out.

If you've ever made a tackle on defense, there's literally no chance you've never made a tackle when properly wrapping and your head wasn't facing down. There's literally an entire thread on this very board dedicated to countless times it happens. When the ball carrier doesn't lower his helmet level, it's called a clean, well-executed tackle.

The call was made because the OSU defender led head-first.

In case you missed it...OSU's D kept them in the game in the 2nd half and then couldn't hold the lead at the end. OSU coaches got worked in this game... just saying
