I just think it's dumb to penalize a team that clearly has a collection of better wins, and the better loss, while both having the same record. You would be rewarding a team for clearly having a worse regular season, and then beating a lesser opponent in a CCG. I just don't see how one can justify putting Utah/Oregon ahead of LSU should they lose. That would be Utah's only win against a ranked team.

If UGA was 12-0, there would be no point in playing it IMO, because at that point they'd both deserve to go.

I don't think UGA is much better than Oregon or Utah (if better at all) at this point. So i'm not sure i'd say LSU has to play a clear better opponent in their CCG.

That's fair, but they deserve to be ranked higher than both of them at this point, based on body of work.

I can agree with that, they might deserve to be ranked higher based on body of work, but based on the eye test of late UGA has fallen a bit flat.

UGA has better wins but also by far the worst loss of the 3.

Why is Bama still hanging around?

Because someone wants a Sugar Bowl with Bama and Oklahoma/Hurts badly? Yea, lack of Tua hurts that story a little but, still probably big money.

LSU gets left out if Oregon and Utah both go into the Pac title game with 1 loss IMO.

That sets a strange precedent if they put LSU in over 1 loss Oregon/Utah in that situation. Basically says the SEC championship game didnt matter at all. And that really neither did the PAC title game, since 1 loss beating 1 loss did nothing for Oregon/Utah except get a seat behind a LSU team that just lost a championship game.
And barely beat a crappy Alabama team with only a lame QB to their name.

I dont understand the rankings 5 thru 10. They just dont seen to make any kind of logical sense. Clearly theyre not using resume and it doesnt appear theyre using eye test either

Isn't it completely reasonable for a 12-1 LSU to be picked over a 12-1 Utah/Oregon?

LSU would have wins over: Alabama, UF and Auburn with the loss to UGA
Oregon would have wins over: Utah and USC with the loss to Auburn
Utah would have wins over Oregon and ?? With a loss USC.

It's pretty clear that LSU has the better collection of wins and better loss. Also the gap between LSU and Oregon and Utah could be much larger than the 5/6 spots would indicate in their ranking.
Of course they could justify it. Why is it "pretty clear" though that LSU has the better wins? I don't think much of Auburn nor UF. Might they be better than Utah and USC? Absolutely, but we don't know.

Exactly. do I think UGA is so much better? Probably. But how do we know? Because they beat auburn and UF? And why are we so sure UF and Auburn are so good?

How do you know? Because you THINK UF and Auburn are all that. why are they not being punished for the "bad loss" that has gotten teams who don't play in the SEC so often?

And for some reason "bad loss" does not seem to matter so much for Team SEC for whatever reason. And now it's the wins that matter.

I think they'll pass LSU. Beating number 9 PSU and number 12 Michigan and then the BIG CCG should be more than enough to put them pass LSU.
agree it should be enough if they keep blowing teams out. However, an LSU blowout of UGA and OSU winning close against Minnesota/Wisky makes a difference.

I'm not sure how Oregon and Utah have looked better the last month than UGA has though? Sure UGA has played close games, but they've played the #11 and #15 ranked teams. And got neither of them at home. They beat the 2 unranked teams they've played a combined 48-0.

Okay, but LSU also beat Bama, why conveniently leave them out? Auburn simply has a MUCH better resume than USC does. Auburn doesn't have the bad losses to teams like UW and BYU on the resume. Not that those teams are necessarily bad, but Auburn lost to #1, #4 and #11. BYU and UW aren't ranked with good reason.

Why do I have to explain why teams ranked #11 and #15 are better than teams ranked #23 and unranked? I'm not assuming anything. There isn't any metric that would suggest USC and whatever would be Oregon's next best win to be better than that of Auburn and UF.

No different than how they determine it in basketball. The more good wins you have the more deserving you are. Also Utah has no good wins. They are 0-1 against ranked teams. Hell for all we know they'd have 4 losses already with Georgia's schedule.

I seem to remember an Ohio State team with a bad loss that was taken over one loss teams with better losses. Don't call the kettle black, pot.

They looked like shit against Kentucky if you watched any of that game.
