Reading that the MLBPA has rejected a mediator.

So this is going in the wrong direction.

What a bunch of pricks.
Players don’t get paid for ST (outside of per diem), so they actually have a bit of leverage right now.

I guess today he made it official.

Now if Angel Hernandez and CB Bucknor would follow suit, we'd be cooking with gas.
If we don’t want to COOK with gas, just put them in the kitchen with the gas but blow out the pilot light…

But to be fair to Cowboy Joe…

He was a superior ump (outside of balk calls) when not behind the plate.

If that's the case, I'm not going to feel bad for these assholes. They're the ones dragging this out.

They had a discussion on this subject on MLB Network today. They said that unless you are stuck on your negotiation points, accepting an outsider to help get the deal done is something that everyone should accept.

This will hurt the players public perception in this fight, I think.

I agree. The game has been in pretty good shape for quite a while and this will hurt at least a little bit.

I have paid attention to what the actual proposals have been or how they differ from the current levels, but…

assuming his simplified summary of how the discussions have gone so far are accurate, what if the players were originally scheduled to receive $3? That kinda changes how that narrative looks, doesn’t it?

—————————

MLB: Here’s $5. That is a 67% increase over what you were getting before.
MLBPA: We want $20.
MLB: Be serious. Here’s $5.
MLBPA: OK, you are right. We want $18.
MLB: MLBPA not cooperating lockout.

2 months later
MLB: Here’s $5. A 67% increase.
MLBPA: Will do $16.
MLB: That is not a good faith offer. Here’s $5
MLBPA: OK. $14.
MLB: This is getting nowhere. We need a mediator to fix this.

MLB: We are ready to start. Here’s $5. A 67% increase over the current levels.

—————————

I have no idea how the conversations have gone. And my scenario is completely fabricated, but just as plausible as the tweet.

I'll be honest, seeing players complaining all over actually hurts their image in my opinion. I get the frustration but it seems petty to me.

he Major League Baseball Players Association has rejected Major League Baseball's request for a federal mediator to assist in collective bargaining agreement negotiations.

MLB made the request on Thursday in lieu of a counter proposal, and it's no surprise that the MLBA has opted to reject the idea. The MLBPA writes in a statement that "the clearest path to a fair and timely agreement is to get back to the table. Players stand ready to negotiate." The MLB owners are scheduled to meet next week, but there is currently no next meeting between MLB and the MLBPA on the docket. Spring training is currently scheduled to begin in 10 days, but that's not happening.
