Matt Cooke

2011-2012 82 Games 44 PIMs
2013 48 Games 36 PIMs

Tonight he reverted back to his thug game and hurt the Penguins, but for the last 2 years he has been playing alot cleaner game.

The whole team tried to, that might have worked against some teams but not the Bruins.

In any case I dont wanna get into a pissing contest.

Bruins did at kleast what we fans wanted and got a win in Pitt. Who knows what game 2 will hold but at least we will leave with a split at worst.

I am not mad with you. Frustrated with Boston teams tonight. Not only the Pens but the Yankees got spanked by the Sox tonight.

:agree: And I hate watching when the Penguins do this. It is not their game and they seem to get frustrated when it doesn't work.

THe one time I actually agreed with Milbury it goes back on the coaching they let the team leave their game.

Julien got his team focused to play their game and it worked.

I honestly didn't think there was one going on, was a good discussion.

Anyway can't wait for game two.

Not the first time Pitt has done this under Blysma. Game 5 of the 2009 Cup Final was the worst, but atleast that time they came back to win the next two.

I think in this entire short season Marchand had 21 PIMs

Looking again.

Marchand had 27 PIMS
Cooke had 36 PIMS

So your point is what?

you're smart enough to know that taking penalties is not always the same as being a dangerous player.
you yourself called Cooke a 'cheap shot player' about 10 posts ago. I feel the same about marchand.
hell, Raffi Torres only had 17 PIMs this year, and he's still a dangerous player.

But the difference is Marchand was not under review at all this year. Raffi on the other hand was.

Marchand did nothing cheap this year at all. He is still a pest and gets under players skins but he has not done anything to put him in a Cooke or Rafi class.

I can understand that you being a Nuck fan hate him. Hell if I was a Nuck fan I would hate him but the body of work does not support your claim.

The refs had very little bearing on the Pens tonight, they need to win regardless...

That said, man did the refs screw themselves early. The Cooke hit was an obvious board, but not worthy of a 5 and 10. Not even close. But, if you call that, it better be the same across the board. Having the same play occur and not calling it the same just shows the call was made because of the name. That's just not okay anytime, let alone in the postseason. If Cooke is suspended then this league will have reached new lows. It was a dangerous hit, that's why the minor penalty exists. Just some bizarre stuff from the zebras. If the real Pens had showed up maybe I'd be more upset about their work, but the Pens lost alllll on their own tonight. I sure hope the refs pull it together though, that and the silly Orpik interference call were stinkers.

The pens are in desperate need of their depth guys to step up when the big guns are down. Also certain guys just need to grow up (Geno and Letang mostly) and play the game.

no.

his shoulda been a minor, as was marchands
but when they called his a major, letting marchand off the hook was a big mistake.
this series will get ugly, and it's directly because of that.

btw - Cooke is NOT a repeat offender under the Shanaban rules.
it has an 18 month window, and he hasn't been disciplined in 2 years.

Corey Perry wasn't a repeat offender under Shanaban rules earlier this year when he hit Jason Zucker - his only suspension was back in 2009 yet in the video explaining the discipline, Rob Blake specifically stated he has a history of being suspended one of the three key points for the suspension being levied.

The repeat offender moniker is complete and utter bullshit. An offender is an offender and there is no rhyme or reason for supplemental discipline anymore.

The way I saw it, Cooke's hit was dirty, but probably should have been a minor, and Marchand's hit should have gotten the same call. Since Cooke's was a major, Marchand's should have been as well. The zebras kind of opened up a can of worms on this one.

as expected - no supplemental discipline for anyone tonight btw (Cooke, Marchand, Bolland)

shoulda been:
Bolland: 2 for charging
Cooke: 2 for boarding
marchand: 2 for hitting from behind.

at least the no suspensions call was right.

Pretty much this. They screwed themselves by setting the precedent.

That pretty much hits the nail right in the head esls. Another example would be the Habs/Sens series when after a Sens player, who I can't remember his name, got suspended for a game, the bullshit from game 3 I believe it was when a Habs player blatantly elbowed a Sens player (a brutal elbow IMO), Shanny did nothing, zilch, nada. That to me was an all time low for shanny and his office regarding dangerous hits/plays.

Well considering what occurred during the Habs/Sens series, last night was like a spring social gone wrong. I thought Shanny would do a better job than Colin but at times I think he does worse. If he's not going to be consistent with his rulings than they might as well not make any at all.

Already seeing on blogs that MAV should be in game 2
No chance MAF get the start Monday. Unless he's going to play somewhere other than goal.

Plus it was already announced that Cooke will be available for game 2.

It was, but McQuaid turned his head, saw Cooke coming, then turned his head back around and put himself in a vulnarable postion. I hate calls like that, regardless who it's against.

Unsuspecting player (Neal) getting hit in the numbers driven into the boards head first is what 5min. majors are for. Not guys who see it coming (McQuaid) and then put themselves in postion to get driven into the boards.

Cooke got kicked out becasue he's Cooke.

Marchand didn't because he's Marchand.
