I might as well buy up all the Brandon Tate posters now, because you mo-fo's will be paying hundreds of dollars for them next year.

Brandon Tate... pro bowl... guaranteed!

At this point I think Marvin is just fucking with us with the whole Tate thing..... He must take some sort of sick satisfaction in continuing to torture us with him. We could basically just hire any other 6th wide out that can catch a punt or a kick off and the entire fan base would be fine with the dude for a year. But, we stick with Brandon Tate. Why?

Adam Jones will be gone. It's insurance for both Returns and as a #5/6 WR.

From Hobson...

Houshmandzadeh thinks the Bengals can survive. They’re not going to raid 30ish veterans or unrestricted free agents like Percy Harvin or Jordan Norwood for fear of losing the compensatory picks next year for Jones and Sanu. And the restricted tender on Arizona’s Jaron Brown is too rich. But maybe if released guys like Jeremy Kerley, Brandon LaFell, and Marlon Brown are priced right next month something could happen. Still, when Houshmandzadeh looks at replacing Jones and Sanu this season, he knows that while Bengals haven’t received great production from rookie receivers who have been drafted in head coach Marvin Lewis’ 14 seasons, they’ve gotten enough. Third-rounder Jordan Shipley had 52 catches in 2010 and third-rounder Chris Henry had six touchdowns in 2005. But both were No. 3 receivers behind two established veterans.

“But technically when you look at it,” Houshmandzadeh said, “the guy coming in here is going to be the third receiver, too, because he’ll be the third read behind A.J. and Tyler. And if Tyler stays healthy for all 16 games, that is going to make the (rookie’s) total drop. Plus, they’re loaded at tight end, so (offensive coordinator Ken) Zampese can do some things with that like when the Patriots had (Rob) Gronkowski and (Aaron) Hernandez at tight end with a one-receiver set.” And maybe the draft of '12, the one of Jones and Sanu, is a good place to start because it went into a '12 season the Bengals had no running mate for Green and still won 10 games and made the postseason.

They did it with a solid tight end and Jermaine Gresham was second on the team in receiving yards while a committee of five wide receivers (Jones, Sanu, Andrew Hawkins, Armon Binns, Brandon Tate) had at least 13 catches and they all would have had 200 yards if Sanu didn't miss the last month of the season with a broken foot. After working with the rookies last season, Houshmandzadeh thinks 5-9, 180-pound Mario Alford and 6-4Jake Kumerow have possibilities. And he’s hoping 2014 rookie James Wright’s knee holds up since no is expecting anything from him “but I heard he can really put them down.”

“Because of Mario’s size, he’s got to have a cleaner catch and a better grasp of the system, but he can really get down the field. He's got to separate,” Houshmandzadeh said. “Kumerow has a little hitch at the top of his route that gives away what he’s doing, but that can be fixed. He does a good job catching and to me that’s the No. 1 thing for a receiver and getting open. Speed is the third thing.” Houshmandzadeh, the third leading receiver in Bengals history, had a slow start, too, with 21 catches for 228 yards in 2001 as a seventh-round pick. He thinks they can find a pretty good guy lurking this year, too. “They’ll be fine,” Houshmandzadeh said. “Get a guy in the second or third round and a guy on the last day.”

I've got to agree with Housh here. I see no problem. They can run 60% 12-personnel. They can use Gio and Hewitt in the Slot another 20% of the time. They can use a Fullback more often. They already have plays where they use 3 Tackles where Fisher can catch a pass. Dalton can run a few more designed plays out of different sets. Alford has the speed to draw a Safety away from Green a few plays per game.

Almost all of the top-ten Receivers are Slot guys, and they are more ready to contribute and can be had in the 3rd round. There's always quality Receivers who can be good projects in the 7th rd and as UDFA's. And, I love the idea of getting a guy like Marlon Brown after he's released.

I disagree.... 2014 demonstrated the value of our receivers. When we lost Eifert and Jones, Dalton really struggled.

Dalton struggled because Hue was clueless.

That was not fun. It took a 3-game injury to Gio for Hill to even get used as he should.

Looking forward to see what Zampese comes up with.

Okay. So I suppose now that Hue is gone, Andy will shine.

Dalton struggled because he was throwing to Jermaine Gresham, Greg Little, Brandon Tate and Rex Burkhead.

Dalton did very well last year after Hue took the restrictions off of him he placed upon him the first year working with him. Hue Jackson would not let Dalton make 2nd reads under any conditions in 2014. Dalton had grown three years in a row, improving at a consistent rate, and then Hue came in and went beyond stunting his growth, he regressed his progress. The mistakes Hue made in 2014 were recognized and he let Dalton grow again and Dalton responded with his best year ever. Since Zampese isn't a control freak like Jackson, and isn't nearly as arrogantly stubborn, Dalton will have his best year once again. He doesn't need Jones. He doesn't need Sanu. And, by the way, Gresham in 2014, led all NFL Receivers, Wide Receivers and Tight Ends, in catch rate, dropping only one pass the entire season. But, the idiot Jackson had Gresham running only one route...take two steps and turn around. Gresham was used as improperly as one can use a Receiver. Gresham was also a Top-5 TE in blocking the entire year. He still is. Jackson will be a disaster in Cleveland. He won't last three years. Zampese will have this Offense a Top-10 in his first season, and Top-5 in his 2nd. Dalton will be knocking on the door of Top-5 QB each of the next two years.

Well, it also hurt that Eifert and Jones were out the season, AJ was injured all season, and Sanu was your #2.

Precisely my point..... No Jones and no Eifert was a huge loss. AJ only played part of the season.

Will we be okay if AJ and Eifert are healthy for 16 games? Sure. Is there any reason to believe they will be? No.

Take Eifert out of this offense with the losses of Sanu and Jones and I think we struggle. It would be too easy to take AJ away if there wasn't anyone else out there to scare them. That worries me.
