After losing Halladay, I now see where the Phillies are now shopping Cole Hammels, Cliff Lee, and Jonathan Papelbon.

Well, all that pitching. They were SET!!! Now, it seems a given that their G.M will now have to pay with his job for this going bad so spectacularily.

First Sabathia, then Jeter.

The Yankees are now 2 for 2 in the dept. of not being surprised that Cano left for his big money grab. And, he is the 2nd to say that they did nothing to try to convince him to stay.

Hmm....

From Jeter - "I've been paying for breakfast, lunch and dinner all these years. He gets paid and he leaves, so I'll get him in Seattle, I guess."

Thinking of the Bears Org. last night.

1) They sure took a criminally long time to honor Ditka. Almost so long that they might not have bothered now at all.

2) Who answers to the issue of him dying of pnumonia from just showing up last night if he does?

The end of a VERY rocky road.

He has been out of the spotlight so long, this slipped past me until today. I was aware that former phenom Mark Pryor was still trying and hanging on to his MLB dream. What I did not know was that, late last year, he hurt his arm yet again.

And now, he is done for good. That said, he may not be done with baseball, as I understand there is a chance that he would join the Padres front office in some capacity.

I wonder if he still sends Dusty Baker a Christmas card?????

JETER not trying to convince Cano to stay in Sinstripes? That's a surprise!

Now if only he would leave that team and get some hits AGAINST it before he retires!:hope:

They are also talking about trading Dom Brown as well.

This team is in trouble.

Also they just gave Utley a pretty big deal at his age.

If someone would take his salary I would get rid of him in a second, but no one will do that.

Love Jeter and what he has done for the team, but I am not one to judge a team with my heart. I am more of what can you do for me now.

And its a shell of what he was for a similar price.

Does any website keep track of career QS?

I would like to see what Halladay's career win vs. QS looks like.

I tried, but could not find any all time QS stats or info.

I looked as well and could not find anything, which is surprising to me.

When did the stat come in to play?

Maybe 10 years ago?

Keep the home fires burning Floff. I have to have 2 hours of my life needlessly wasted now, a.k.a, a staff meeting.

Yeah. He could set up Uehara, or maybe pitch the 7th inning ahead of Workman, Tazawa, Mujica, and Breslow.

They will not be able to unload that contract unless they take one back. There are too many closer-types still on the market.

Their best chance is to wait until spring training when all free agents have signed, and see if someone suffers an injury.

Hey...maybe the Yankees will take him. They seem to like getting former Red Sox players that have won a World Series.

A Cubs executive when asked about talks between the two teams (presumably about Samardzija) said the Yankees do not have any upper level talent in the minors. I guess no deal. This means the Yankees don't even have anybody to entice the CUBS in a trade. THE CUBS. A team that hasn't won since 1908, but yet now has a better farm system than the Yankees.

The Yankees prospects all took a step back in their first tastes of AA ball, or were injured. This is why they have to pay for most of their players. Their scouting and player development absolutely suck.

I wrote this the other day, but the Sox paid Ellsbury roughly $20mm for 6 years and 2 months of service in his age 24-29 seasons. Those 2 months were the final month of the 2007 regular season and the month of the playoffs and WS in 2007, to which Ellsbury was a key contributor to the Sox winning it all.

The Yankees now pay Ellsbury $153mm for his age 30-36 seasons.

This shows what happens when you have a solid player development foundation and when you don't.

So much happened in the weeks before the winter meetings, that right now there is nothing going on. With the exception of Choo, who is expected to sign soon, there isn't much chatter with free agents. There is mostly trade talk and the biggest is the 3 team deal involving the D-Backs, White Sox and Angels.

The D-Backs get Mark Trumbo(from Angels)
The White Sox get Adam Eaton (from D-Backs)
The Angels get Tyler Skaggs (from D-Backs) and Hector Santiago (from White Sox)

The Angels may also kick back a prospect to Arizona.

Looks like the kind of deal that helps all teams and all are confident it can get done.
