New season came out yesterday...

Only saw the first 2 episodes

I thought "Joan is Awful" was one of the best episodes of this show ever... very fun watch... the twist was a little predictable, but who cares!!!

LockHenry could have been a great movie... it was a good enough episode, but didnt really feel like a black mirror episode... really think they could have turned it into a movie and expanded on some stuff...

Glad I stumbled upon this thread, this looks like something I'd like watching.

Never heard of it before now.

Ive only watched to eps

I thought Joan is awful was solid, not even close to best ever though.

The other i watched was the Mazey one. Wooooooooof. Objectively bad tv. Not sure how it made it through the planning stages.

I saw this post earlier and I figured you were exaggerating. I watched it tonight, and you were not. One of the worst episodes of something I ever sat through.

Only saving grace is that it was 40 minutes long which is very short for a black mirror episode. Completely nonsense of a plot.

Was it worse than that Miley Cyrus one?

Black Mirror episodes can be hit or miss but I still enjoy the show.

the Joan is Awful episode was good. I couldn't pin down who was playing Joan until they said it was the chick from Schitt's Creek.

also, good to see Michael Cera is still around

I kept looking at her too wondering who the fuck is that. The hair colour with the white stripe as what fucked me up.

Agree 100% on your take on both episodes. Loch Henry was confusing because it just didn’t fit as a BM episode.

Joan is Awful - Great episode. Not sure it is the “best” BM episode yet, but is certainly top tier.

Loch Henry - OK story, but why is it part of BM?

Beyond the Sea - Dark as fuck. But predictable as well. As I said earlier, I was totally expecting a tie in to the video game episode from the previous season. While I liked the episode as a whole, I didn’t like how it ended. It wasn’t done.

Mazey Day - Meh. I like the very end, but the episode as a whole was forgettable. Not a bottom tier episode, but probably the tier next to the bottom tier.

Demon 79 - not as woke as the previous season, but more woke than BM should be. That said, mid-tier episode for BM. Forgettable in the long run, but entertaining enough and it fits in the formula for BM.

This season, ranked…

just watched Common people- episode 1... it was a good black mirror story... but very depressing... although the message was clear, and everything was done well, it will not reach my top 10 episodes, just because i dont like depressing tv...

If you don’t like depressing (who does, really?), why do you watch Black Mirror?

My ranking for this newest season…

Callister (by a mile, it may be the best BM “episode” ever)
Common People (depressing af, but powerful)
Eulogy (depressing as well, but also sweet)
Hotel Reverie (based on story alone - the acting was rough and I didn’t like the cast)
Bete Noir (decent for BM, but I am not a fan of the genre)
Plaything (nothing to the story. Too simple)

i still enjoy it... i just like fun episodes more than depressing... just because it is a NEGATIVE message to real life society does not mean it is going to be depressing... and does not mean it had to be...

again, i still liked the episode... just for me, i wouldnt watch it again...

Joan is awful, from last season, was an elite episode for me, because it was fun...

Just watched that "episode" last night... agree it was amazing...

my only critique about it was that the ending was not very strong...

My 2 biggest critiques.

1. if the Robert Daly Clone became a pervert(or whatever by wanting to keep her) at the end.. Just like the original version, why give the Walton Clone a "happy ending" where they were saying HE WAS NOT LIKE the original...

2. it was said that New Nanette was the source to bring down Walton... but they could have done so much more with that...

but that is just nitpicking on a great episode... although calling it an episode feels cheap as well... it was more of a movie, than anything else...

Bob2 had been isolated with ZERO human contact for years. Bob1 was a socially awkward nerd who didn’t recognize the ethical questions about virtual clones. I would say that Bob2 was seriously damaged due to the isolation while Bob1 just had a differing opinion on a cutting edge concept.

Walton1 was an egotistical narcissist who fed that tendency. Walton2 had everything taken away from him and had to change himself to rely on and support his crew mates. He even made the ultimate sacrifice to save everyone. He grew and became a better person.

I would have been ok with skipping the ending regarding Walton1. Maybe address that in a Callister 3? As it is, there isn’t a lot of room for a 3rd installment.

I dont disagree with Walton2s evolution...

my point was that Bob2 was a clear prisoner, and a clear victim... by showing that he acted like the original as soon as he had the opportunity to, was showing that clones were the exact same as the original...

while all the other clones seemed to have some evolution to their character...

Just saying there was a better way to end it, maybe if Walton1 went into the game again to stop Nanette2 and Bob2, and Bob2 was given a chance to save nanette2... that would have fit the story as well... and been consistent to the story...

again... i am just nitpicking... i agree with you that this may have been the best and most entertaining episode in the entire franchise... just stating where i think it could have even been better...

I think the differences between Walton1/Walton2 and Bob1/Bob2 come down to Nature/Nurture. The clay is essentially the same, but circumstance molded the clay differently. Nanette1/Nanette2 had not been separated long enough for there to be a major difference between the two of them, but intern2 grew into himself when societal class was removed and the crew was put under pressure.
