Here’s How the Netflix Interactive Film ‘Black Mirror: Bandersnatch' Works

The episode begins with a brief tutorial of how it’s going to work: viewers are instructed on how to use their remotes or controls to choose the “left” and “right” choices that will display on the screen, and each choice alters the narrative that then unfolds. A 10-second timer runs when the options are presented to you, and if you don’t make a choice in that time, a default selection is made.

I chose for Colin to jump and it seemed like I could watch all of the choices made after that. I saw an article where someone on Reddit already created the entire decision tree for it if you're interested.

I fucking love this show so much.

Bandersnatch is okay, the idea of choosing your path is kind of cool but I'd have preferred them to use the time it took to make that on just doing another season of multiple episodes. I did think it was cool to see past episodes mentioned, like the video game Colin was working on being called Nose Dive.

Here's my only gripe with this movie. There are some decisions you make that are wrong. I got a "go back" screen a few times which pretty much meant that I made a wrong choice. If it were to be a truly interactive experience where you are in control of the story, then you should NEVER be able to make a wrong choice. It should just show an outcome. I got 3 different endings, but I'm sure there are more.

But...maybe that's the whole point of the movie. During the movie, they always talk about giving the player the ILLUSION OF CONTROL. Maybe the intention of the movie was to be interactive but to make the viewer THINK they had full control of what happened in the story, only to let you know that you have no control at all. Pretty cool concept, pretty decent movie plot. I liked it.

There are actually 5 different endings! When I read some of the different paths you could talk I was completely surprised that a few different choices could lead me to such different outcomes.

That's how those books worked, which I really enjoyed as a kid.
