I hope he stays at PSU but understand if he doesn't. You gotta do what you think's best.

when Obrien got his contract extension, he stated he was committed to stay at Penn State for the length of his contract. how can we expect young athletes to embrace ethical conduct when the coaches do not. Hopefully he will do the right thing.

that would be a terrible blow for Penn St. I hope he stays there, he is a very talented coach and has a good job at a top level university.

Pretty sure he's already out the door, and if he's not heading to Houston it's for another NFL vacancy. Earlier in the week he wanted his NFL buyout to be lowered.

I had read that as well. I was hoping it was meant for somewhere down the road since he has peaked the interest of the NFL for a couple years in row.

Youre prolly right , it will just suck to have Penn St start over after they reacted so well after the mess.

TBH I think he could have had an NFL head coaching position last year, but there was a lot of pressure on him to not bail on PSU. He has proven himself to be a very good coach with another good this year at State College despite those sanctions, and I think he has earned the right to look elsewhere.

Actually that was in July, it just made headlines earlier this week

Possible three-way coach swap???

-Bill O'Brien to Houston Texans

-Penn State grad Mike Munchak (perhaps soon to be fired by the Tennessee Titans), to Penn State

-Fired Texans coach Gary Kubiak to Tennessee Titans

Maybe???

However, think about this--------If/when O'Brien leaves Penn State.....who would PSU rather have as their new coach:

-Penn State grad Mike Munchak

or

-Pennsylvania native, and hot/buzz coaching name, current Vanderbilt head coach James Franklin

???

Nothing like teaching kids the value of commitment. Right, Bill?

Everybody screaming for him to keep his word and stay.

Let me ask you this:

if he had gone 3-9, would you be demanding PSU keep their word and not fire him?

Yes because he has had amazing recruiting classes despite the challenges. If he leaves it could be a total disaster for PSU & I will refrain from posting what I would like to say about him.

Had he gone 3-9, would Houston really be interested in hiring him?

If a frog had wings......fact is, Obrien gave his word and committed to Penn State...End of story. I believe he will stay.

Every coach does that. What makes him any different?

When Bryan Harsin went to Arkansas State last year, do you think he didn't say he was committed there too? Less than a year later he's already at Boise State. Is he obligated to stay at ASU forever?

BTW, I know Arky State and Penn State are apples and oranges, but it's the first example that came to mind. You get my point though.
