How about McDaniels making a slew of smart draft-day trades to have a treasure chest full of 2nd, 3rd, and 4th round picks and blows the lot of em to trade back into the first round to get Tebow? Simply drafting Tebow doesn't begin to explain his stupidity. He was graded as a 3rd rounder (for what thats worth) and McDaniel's gave up a kings ransom to draft him 2 rounds too early

The third round grade was absurdly generous, too. Everyone with eyes could see he couldn't throw a football.

Marty Mornhinweg taking the wind against the Bears in OT. I think it was in 2002.

The Bears marched down the field and kicked a FG, The Lions never even got the ball.

Singletary pulling his pants down in front of his team at halftime to "make a point" is about the stupidest thing a coach has ever done but it didn't have too much impact in the grand scheme of things. All the other coaching decisions Singletary did on the other hand though...
That wasnt even Singletary's biggest blunder. Firing Mike Martz and hiring Jimmy Raye as OC was far worse.

McDaniels also traded Seattle the first round pick for what turned into Earl Thomas.

I think the corner they drafted ended up getting cut pretty soon after they took him too if im not mistaken.

But tell us all again how you guys in Seattle are over SB XL.

@midnightangel..... I don't think anyones over that game. I mean were "over it" as in were focused on this year. But I dont think a die hard fan ever really gets "over" losing a superbowl the way they did......especially when you dont have 5 other rings to fall back on.

The money there isn't particularly better than anywhere else, and good luck finding another job after Jerry spits you out.

Who hasn't been able to find work?

Let me clue you in on a little secret....

The Cowboys cheated in SB XXX. Emmitt Smith wasn't in the endzone on his TD.

You know why we don't hold that against the 'Boys?

Because we know our losing that game had more to do with Niel O'Donnell and his late game INT's than anything else.

The Seahawks lost that game for a lot of reasons....mismanaging the clock at the end of the 2nd quarter and 4th quarter. Allowing Big Ben to pick up 37 yards on 3rd and 25. Allowing Willie Parker to break a 75 yard TD run. Allowing the gadget play TD. I could go on but you get the idea. To say that the Steelers didn't win that is to not face the truth that you guys didn't do what it took to win the game and we did. Hell, even on Big Ben's TD it's not like Cowher ran his XP team out there to get the XP quickly. It happened on the plus side of 2 minutes as I recall and it was reviewed. What was Bill supposed to do? Decline the TD?

No one was bribed, the game wasn't rigged and the calls - over all - weren't that bad. (The blocking below the waist on Hasselback I'll give you was garbage).

We made the big plays it took to win and the Seahawks didn't.

Hmm, has the fact that Romo was holder for the FG unit while he was the starting QB been mentioned? If that doesn't happen, and the media/fans don't dogpile on top of him for that one, does Tony Romo's career take a completely different turn?

No.

I don't believe Dallas would have gotten past the next round that year.

Secondly, none of the mistakes he's made in the following years had anything to do with that game.

See I think that is debatable. Not whether or not they'd win the next round, there's absolutely no way to know that, but isn't it possible that his confidence and psyche could have been permanently damaged after an entire offseason focusing on that play? One he should have not been a part of?

That wasn't his fault. Everything since then? Entirely on him.

If you let one play that legitimately wasn't your fault ruin your career, you never had it.

Kinda funny to think of what the backlash would be if Garrett was on the staff and the HC back then. Because Parcells made the call to have his starting QB hold the ball, it can't be a bad call by him. I say that as a Parcells fan.

Also, FWIW, Parcells seemed VERY optimistic about how Dallas matched up with Chicago that year. Dallas played Chicago in 2007, and ran all over them in a 34-10 win.

Alphonso Smith. Played another season in Detroit and had a couple of good games, but that was about it.

Still not as bad a decision as the Tebow debacle.

Trading up to get Tebow was definitely a big mistake, but I've always put that on Bowlen. Great an owner as I've always thought he's been, giving 'lil Josh control over personnel after having just fired Shanny, following years of his poor personnel moves, is baffling.

I can't really blame Bowlen for Josh's specific miscues. He is a hands off owner and gave Josh full control. Besides, Bowlen was going through a lot of health issues at the time and Joe Elis was making the calls. I blame the FO for hiring him in the first place, but not his decisions as HC.

At least they fired him when he proved to be incapable of doing the job and they didn't wait until the end of the season to do it.
