The Lions never make the playoffs, other GM's won't hold that against him. Watch him go to the Bears and end up ending Stafford's career.

DIV rivals will try to inflict as much damage as possible so I can see CHI doing that.

I said players like Suh. A severely injured Brees with massive question marks surrounding him is not a player like Suh.

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports the Lions are willing to let walk-year DT Ndamukong Suh reach the open market next offseason.

Per Rapoport, the Lions want an "informed" Suh to "sign a deal he’s happy with." It's a bizarre tact, one that would all but assure Suh leaves as a free agent. Players of his caliber almost never hit the market. It's possible the Lions are simply tired of the Suh experience, but he's an irreplaceable presence up front. Jul 29 - 7:35 PM.

Sorry, dude. On this one I have your response above as a total fail. Brees had a shoulder, but Miami tried like hell to get him too - he was a premium FA and the Bolts let him walk. Brees' shoulder should be no more of a concern than Suh's temper and Goodell's willingness to suspend him at the drop of a hat.

This one's over, sorry.

They only have about $5mil in cap space as of now. Unless they get some restructuring done, I don't see it happening.

The Dolphins passed on him and the Chargers let him go because he was severely injured.

He wasn't a premium free agent. He was formerly a great QB who was now damaged goods. Suh will be a premium free agent who several teams look at, not just a couple.

SD never tried to resign Brees. The Lions have been trying to sign a perfectly healthy Suh for months.

It's not the same thing at all.

Max vs. Facts

Max "The Dolphins tried like hell to get Brees!"

Facts: Miami docs gave him a 25% chance to play again and never even offered him a contract. Nick Saban admits they passed on him.

You're right...I should rephrase that response to Robbase...I don't see it happening either realistically, but if a rival was in financial position they would try to eliminate a DIV foe was my point.

I still contend he signs in DET, but if he really wants to max out he's going to end up with a bad team with a lot of cap space trying to make a splash much like Mario going to BUF.

Teams cap space changes yearly. The Redskins signed Haynesworth to a 100 million dollar contract somehow when they were only 1 million under the cap. Guys get let go, contracts get restructured yadda, yadda, yadda...If Suh wants to play for a bad team he would have resigned already.

You don't think the Lions have thrown the house at him? This drunk staff are the masters of freeing up money with bad contracts in order to keep their stars. They don't think like fans who want to underpay this guy.

The Lions know how important he is to this team and don't want him to go. If they did they would just trade him to free up the money now. But they STILL hold out hope in the public forum that they can somehow resign him.

It's Dan Gilbert and Lebron all over again. Maybe he'll come back after winning a few SB's.

This states the Lions have tried everything to keep him. If he leaves, how can blame the Lions? Because they haven't won a Superbowl? Only one team a year does.

Obviously because the staff is a bunch of incompetent losers who failed to surround him with a winning team.

You don't have to win the SB to be successful.

Do you guys all think Megatron still signs his new deal if the Lions go 7-9 and miss the playoffs again instead of 10-6 a few years ago? I don't.

That fraudulent season gave us all false hope, including him. We were all wrong, obviously. Without that miracle winning season Megatron probably isn't a Lion right now.

There's a difference between CJ and Suh though. I think CJ cares more about winning in Detroit than Suh does. I don't give a shit what he says or what 97.1 alledgedly puts out there. Suh is playing for himself, and that's fine, but it won't help this team any if he's planning in staying.

No Doubt the Lions offered 12 or 13 mil....Thats very respectable. But if he signs 12-13 mil say in S.F. or Seattle that's a contender move.....15-17 to go to Dallas or N.Y. is a money move........

I'll be sick to my stomach if he signs a money move say for 17 mil to stay in the division......I don't see that happening but would nevertheless make me ill.

The salary cap is like reinventing virginity every year! I would have no problem for a rival to spend 15-17 million a season on Suh. It limits what they can do elsewhere. The Lions have faced Julius Peppers and Jared Allen and did well.

This will play out and next season will take care of itself. Maybe with the money they save they get top tier CB talent in FA.

I don't think the one winning season changed anything with Megatron. He signed because he is the focal point of a pass heavy offense and after a few years of playing with bad QB's, he finally had one who could get him the ball.

If Megatron wanted to leave Detroit -- he could have. Teams would have been lined up to sign him. In the pass heavy NFL of today -- he is the best of the best for WRs, so he could have named his price.

Don't get me wrong -- I'm quite sure getting a contract making him the highest paid non-QB in the NFL helped sign an extension with the Lions.:pound:
